Doctor, Doctor, Doctor... My show, let me show you it.
'Buzzcocks: The Doctor Who Special' was *fabulous*. Can I have a David Tennant for Christmas please? As the Sunday Times pointed out, there aren't many men who could play Hamlet *and* host the Buzzcocks. And do both so brilliantly.
Oh, I'm going to MISS HIM!
So I thought I'd do a little pimping for my show, for those wondering if it might be something they'd like. You see I found a vid which somehow condenses the show perfectly:
His name is 'THE DOCTOR' by
seduff.
Not only that, but it's a stunning vid in any sense of the word, and I'd recommend it to ANYONE, fan or not. Some thoughts under the cut.
The clever thing this vid does, is that it uses Companions (and other people who meet the Doctor) to showcase him, and does so by breaking up the show into 4 different parts, which together make up 'Doctor Who':
His name is 'the Doctor'. And... he's wonderful.
1. Not a tame Lion. The Doctor as *alien* - un-human, near-immortal, God-like. Also see: "Yeah, I know what an allegory is," said Ace. (Best. Drabble. Ever.)
2. Companions. Ordinary humans that the Doctor picks up, who travel through time and space with him, having incredible adventures. (Often saving the world in the process.) But there can never be a truly happy ending.
3. The Hero. This one's familiar. The selfless hero who saves the world. Except it's seldom straightforward, because of #1.
4. The monsters. There are always bad things that need to be fought. Sometimes everything is black and white, and sometimes things are so murky that it's hard to tell what's what. Long live the monsters! Seriously - can you imagine a world without Daleks?
That's my show in a nutshell and I love it. It is often too silly for its own good, but when it's good it's on par with anything else out there. Not just that, but it's truly part of British culture - the BBC now owns the copyright to police boxes! And the show occasionally contains references to episodes broadcast 30 or 40 years ago - and people will get them! How brilliant is that?
And now I REALLY need to stop procrastinating and get on with all the things I've been neglecting. *runs away*
ETA: OMG it is SNOWING!!! \o/
