For Remembrance Sunday...

This will make you cry. And then you'll share it with everyone you know.

You're right, I cried. But I could beat whoever FILMED that - and then stick it up on bloody youtube, for Christ's sake - over the head with a stick. Doesn't the kid have any right to privacy?

That totally looked like a set-up to me, because as soon as she'd said her dad was serving in Iraq, she looked up at the person filming as if she didn't know what to say next.

From how clearly she was speaking and the set up around her, I'm guessing they told her it would be some sort of web video or interview documentary. She doesn't have a mic pinned on her shirt, so there's a big professional mic off camera. Also, if you look in the background of the classroom scene, there are two professional cameramen. The only sneakiness involved in this is that the dad surprised her.

My local news channel did a story recently on the families that are here in America and how they deal with their loved ones being overseas. She might have been told it was something like that, or some other documentary type filming... in which case, she and her mother probably gave consent. I'm not saying that she doesn't have a right to be embarrassed, just that there is no way that the filming was a surprise to her. Also, I doubt the other parent or the caretaker was in the dark about the dad showing up and it's really the parents who would give consent in that particular situation.

It does show quite clearly how she was trying to be cheerful even though her father was gone, but also how much she really did miss him by her reaction.
