Yet another 'Restless' theory.
So, do any of you out there know what it’s like to watch ‘Restless’ and NOT BEING ABLE TO SAY A SINGLE WORD ABOUT IT? *sigh* I’m not complaining - much - since Darcy has now wanted to watch Buffy for two night in a row. But - but - but - it was Restless! And I wanted to explain it all so badly that I was ready to burst! All I got, was to confirm that some of it was about Dawn, before I mentioned that the cheeseman meant nothing (cue: withering look - “Well, duh!"). So instead my brain went into overdrive when we went to bed and I’ll do my best to write down my thoughts. It’s only inane ramblings, but I just need an outlet. Cut because really I don’t want to inflict it on anyone.
Buffy: “The Slayer.”
Tara: “The First.”
For some reason this leapt out at me. The First Slayer? Or The First Evil?
I think that a neat little theory could be constructed around the premise that The First Evil uses the First Slayer to get to the current Slayer (and obviously The First really has it in for Buffy - as far as I can tell, it brings back Angel only so he can kill her... or at least hurt her). It’s incorporeal, so it uses dreams to get to Buffy and her friends - playing on their fears and insecurities (Willow in ‘Sleeper’: “Buffy, this thing knows us. It made us think that we were talking to people we knew.”). Doesn't want to just kill them, but make them doubt themselves and their abilities... exactly what it does in S7. It knows things they don’t themselves (the Slayers power comes from demons). Especially Buffy’s conflict over the next season - is the Slayer just a killer? - which will be repeated by Dracula (Holden in CWDP: “Feels great. Strong. Like I'm connected to a powerful all-consuming evil that's gonna suck the world into a firey oblivion.”) - all evil things being connected to FE?
And Buffy defeating the danger by ignoring it (“It’s about power!”)... she’s the one with the power - a dream can’t kill you.
I have no idea if that made sense. If anyone’s interested in sensible musings on the topic, I can rec
spacedoutlooney’s posts on 'What was the First Evil up to anyway?'.
In other news, Chapter 12 of ‘Maybe Someday’ has been sent to my beta and Chapter 13 is practically writing itself. Only problem being that the weather is gorgeous and I feel bad for staying inside.

Heee! It's one of my favourite episodes, just because it signposts everything to come, and there're so many "wow" moments to be had going back to it. And certainly linking the FE is a very interesting idea. I do believe Joss said once that he wrote Restless as if it were one long poem. !
And Buffy defeating the danger by ignoring it (“It's about power!”)... she's the one with the power - a dream can't kill you.
Intriguing! So you'd very much link Restless to Get It Done then?

(sarcastically) Tell me something I don't know.
Congrats for getting onto
Good luck with the writing - happy to hear it's flowing! :)

(I think everyone knocked themselves out with the B/A post yesterday...)
he wrote Restless as if it were one long poem!
Really? I didn't know that. But it makes perfect sense.
I'm not sure exactly what I'm linking it to... but definitely something about the Slayers' power coming from demons (Buffy: "We're not demons" Riley: "Is that a fact?") - I'm sure FE uses that somehow. Only so far it's all a bit scrambled.
And I had no idea I was on
Chapter 13 is coming along beautifully... Chapter 12 is still a pain to sort out, but hopefully I'll post tomorrow.
(I will also find time to reply to your e-mail at some point. But if I tell you that the children's room is now spotless, I think you'll understand how busy I've been! ;) )

Heh. I'm sure everyone's enjoyed the post, realises the links but can't quite figure out how to put it into words. Well, that's what I went through!
Take your time with the email and congrats on the room! :)

I'm rather amazed that I was actually able to write anything at all that didn't sound completely bonkers. Trying to piece together a thought you had just as you were falling asleep is not easy! :)
(And I love the icon!)

I thought it was interesting that Tara served as a "guide" to both Willow and Buffy but not to Giles or Xander. Did she appear to Giles at all? Of course that would fit in better with Tara actually representing the Female Watchers we met in the next to last episode (forget what their official name is).

I think that is probably a valid interpretation, whether The FE thing is taken into account or not.

Now I thought about this, and I think that in both Willow and Buffy's case, they are worried someone will find out something bad about them. (Willow that 'she's only wearing a costume', Buffy that her power is demonic).
Xander on the other hand is struggling to find out who he is and where he's going. Every woman becomes a sex-object (except for Buffy!) and none of the men he tries to follow/emulate can help him - Snyder pours scorn on him, his father is an object of fear and loathing, Giles suddenly speaks French...
Giles, I think, is on almost the same path, except of course he *is* an adult and needs no guide - only he doesn't know where he (or his life) is going.
Ok, did that make sense? I love that episode so very much. *happy sigh*

Oh - and read the posts that I linked to. Some very plausible theories there.
