RL update.

Just a little post on why I fell off the face of LJ/fandom. Exceedingly boring.

Firstly there was the (TWO week) half term - not a bad thing in itself (going to Scotland was lovely), but family time means less LJ time.

Then during the second week my parents arrived for their two week holiday. They are lovely people, but my mother tends to drive me insane in her own particular way...

The reason they came right now, is because Sunday was Impish Girl's First Holy Communion (m-i-l held the party - she is, quite simply, made of awesome!). Everything went very well and there was lovely sunshine all day. :)

Parents left Thursday morning, and then I had a day to sort out the house and get things ready for Impish Girl's 8th birthday, which was yesterday! She'd decided she wanted a sleep-over party, so she had 3 little friends staying over (the 4th couldn't make it), and although they're all lovely girls having SIX children altogether was... trying. Esp trying to get them to sleep! *is very tired still*

On top of all this Darcy has been working flat-out for the past couple of weeks (he likes his job, but it can be extremely stressful), and when he came home Wednesday he crashed, and has been in bed with some kinda flu-like thing ever since.

Still, I know some people have had a much, MUCH worse time than I, and since life is finally returning to normal I'm not complaining. :)


I've been skimming my flist & have missed a ton of stuff - I mean I saw links & things, just didn't have time to join in properly. Also girlpire is posting an amazing fic that I haven't had time to look at... There was probably more, but I need to go make tea.

*laughs* Earl Grey is a wonderful thing indeed! Although I was actually talking about our evening meal, which here in Yorkshire is generally referred to as 'tea'. :)

I am not poltical, in fact I tend to run the other way when anything like this comes about. But I saw this, and it makes me cry. Her name I think was Neda, I read an article about her on online, she was one the people that were killed during the riots. Someone captured her death and posted on Youtube. I know I don't even comment here much anymore, and I know very little abot what is going other than people disagree about a important vote. But how can anything be worth this ?

Oh I've heard about her! Haven't been able to make myself watch the video yet, reading about it is bad enough...

As for the background story, then there was Presidential elections in Iran last Friday, and Ahmadinejad (that I'm sure you've heard of) was announced to have won by a landslide victory, which is quite simply impossible. He might - might - have won by a very narrow margin, but the way the numbers were presented showed that the ruling elite had just made it up. People got seriously pissed off and took to the streets for protest marches (there were casualties, but mostly they were allowed to assemble). Then on Friday that's just been, Khamenei (the grand Ayatollah, and religious ruler) told people to stop or face the consequences. The result is deaths like Neda's.

Friday night (knowing the danger the next day would pose) on Iranian blogger wrote this:

“I will participate in the demonstrations tomorrow. Maybe they will turn violent. Maybe I will be one of the people who is going to get killed. I’m listening to all my favorite music. I even want to dance to a few songs. I always wanted to have very narrow eyebrows. Yes, maybe I will go to the salon before I go tomorrow! There are a few great movie scenes that I also have to see. I should drop by the library, too. It’s worth to read the poems of Forough and Shamloo again. All family pictures have to be reviewed, too. I have to call my friends as well to say goodbye. All I have are two bookshelves which I told my family who should receive them. I’m two units away from getting my bachelors degree but who cares about that. My mind is very chaotic. I wrote these random sentences for the next generation so they know we were not just emotional and under peer pressure. So they know that we did everything we could to create a better future for them. So they know that our ancestors surrendered to Arabs and Mongols but did not surrender to despotism. This note is dedicated to tomorrow’s children…”

Saturday night she wrote this, dedicated to Neda, her 'sister':

Yesterday I wrote a note, with the subject line "tomorrow is a great day perhaps tomorrow I'll be killed." I'm here to let you know I'm alive but my sister was killed...
