Two (very, very different) things!
Firstly, via
makd, for my American flisters:
There's a bill called the Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act which will require insurance companies to cover a minimum 48-hour hospital stay for patients undergoing a mastectomy. It's about eliminating the 'drive-through mastectomy' where women are forced to go home just a few hours after surgery, against the wishes of their doctor, still groggy from anesthesia and sometimes with drainage tubes still attached.
Lifetime Television has put this bill on their web page with a petition drive to show your support.. Last year over half the House signed on. PLEASE! Sign the petition by clicking on the web site below - it takes about 2 seconds. You need not give more than your name and zip code number.

Secondly, a Whoniverse fic pimp for what might be the most fabulous, hilarious and crack-tastic fic of all time! (It certainly has the best Doctor monologue/rant I've ever read):
Paying For It
Summary: Jack should have stayed in bed that morning. Furious Time Lords, time machines behaving oddly, something you might have wondered about, and an impossible problem all come to breakfast. 3897 words, set post S3 of DW/S1 of TW.

I'm a big fan of that mastectomy bill. A friend of my grandma's was sent home with drains and things-- she was a little overwhelmed. But each insurance company decides on their own rules...

"I *need* to get the name of your plastic surgeon!" Best use ever of her appearance in DW! :)

I'm not surprised. Your system is *crazy*! (Sure there are drawbacks with universal healthcare, but I wouldn't swap!)
