Inauguration.

I've had the TV on (BBCNews24 is my friend) most of the day (except for when The Cherub played golf on the Wii, she's very good at whacking the ball far, far away), and at about one minute to 5pm GMT (12 noon Washington time) Darcy came through the door with a bottle of champagne in his hand! Yay!

So we all got to watch the inauguration together (Darcy quipped "The President's dead, long live the President!" as the crowd cheered) and sip some bubbly, and then The Cherub (who can't pronounce Obama's name properly, bless her) saw the President smile and very loudly announced: "Obabababama is happy! Obabababama saved the world!" - and we all laughed. (I have no idea where she picked up the world saving thing, it's not something I've been telling her.)

I'm sure lots of people will be more eloquent than I, so I'll just say congratulations America - I hope that your new President can fulfill at least *some* of the expectations he is saddled with, and prove himself to be a good steward. Only time will tell, but - as a wise man once said - there's never been anything false about hope.

I admit I'm intrigued at people all over the world who seem to be as intent on watching as us americans. Hope he lives up to the hype!

[livejournal.com profile] dirtlifegrl emailed this morning-- she has a 3 year old. I just told Aneira that today is special because "we get a new president". Response? "Oh! That's nice! I like presents!"

lol!

It's a fantastic day to be in America. I'm glad others around the world are feeling the joy, too. :)

I was going to go to see a politically themed art exhibit this afternoon, but I can't pry myself away from the TV. It's just amazing. I am so proud of my country today.

I am so hopeful, and I am praying so hard for the President, the administration and the country. I hope we can live up to the challenge.

"Obabababama is happy! Obabababama saved the world!"

Oh, my - the Cherub, indeed. That's just too darling. :)

there's never been anything false about hope

This reminds me of a West Wing episode I watched the other day - that hope by definition simply is. It is never false.

Thanks for your well-wishes. I remain ever hopeful for America.

Awwww! Cherub is cute! Chicklet wants to go visit Obama and play with his daughters.

I hope that your new President can fulfill at least *some* of the expectations he is saddled with, and prove himself to be a good steward.

I hope so too! I know he is going to try and that is more than I can say about our previous president. So at least we have that.

I have been watching all day as well and feeling very happy that such a thing has happened in my lifetime. How lovely to be able to watch such an ending to MLK's vision.

Well, chem lab took longer than I wanted (or expected, even in my pessimistic planning), but I raced out and got to the room where they were showing just as he was saying his name. So I missed the first little bit, but caught most of it, plus all the speech. :-) When they said "congratulations Mr. President," the whole (crowded) room cheered. A lot. A few people cheered at bits of the speech, but most of us didn't. And then, it was perfectly timed - he finished the speech and I gathered my stuff, got up, and got to my postponed class perfectly on time.

Thank you, thank you!
I was working, but watching it all day on my PC in streaming video. It is indeed a day of the people, I've never seen anything like this: so many united in *good* feelings. I'm proud to be an American today! :) Whatever comes next, today we rejoice. :)
