TV makes me happy.
First of all Happy Belated Birthday
priscellie! Hope your day was great! (I actually *did* remember yesterday, but Darcy was v. busy trying to get the iMac and the laptop to talk to each other, so I was LJ-less.)

Yesterday we also finally got round to watching the first part of 'The Devil's Whore', and it left me with flaily hands and much, much love. And not just because of John Simm [it's well written, well acted, beautifully shot and v. nicely produced], although I'd happily watch it just for him. *points to icon* I don't have time to attempt to write anything down (which is probably good, since anything to do with Sexby would probably end up completely in capslocks and my historical knowledge is patchy at best), but AA Gill's review is here. (It's a very positive review. I almost feel like framing it, he does them so seldom.)
ETA: England's at war in The Devil’s Whore, article by Stephen Armstrong, and John Simm on The Devil's Whore. The latter includes this, which is *killing* me with hope:
Has the Beeb asked him to be Doctor Who? “I'm the Master. Simple as that. I don't want to be Doctor Who. I might be the Master again... I'm not allowed to say.”
Dear, dear sweet Mr Moffat give us back Simm!Master. *begs* (Although until then I'm looking forward to more of my scruffy, swashbuckling antihero!)
To end on an even shallower note, I loved 28 Reasons That ‘Twilight’ the Movie Is Better Than ‘Twilight’ the Book. (It's a slideshow, and actually has a lot of complimentary things to say. ENJOY!)

Oooh! Coffee calling!

Oh yes. Yes yes yes. It'd be great even *without* John Simm, and I say that as someone who's generally not fond of historical/costume drama.
Download and *indulge*! :)

My pleasure! :)
I'm delighted to hear John Simm is in it!
He's scruffy and bearded and has *terrible* hair and a scar... and yet he is totally awesome & attractive. Also, of course, his character is great and so's his acting... (See? Gushing. *walks away before breaking out the capslocks*)

And re: So it’s strange to hear epic speeches against tyranny delivered, without irony, by English lips from the Times article you link to -- I had the exact same thought. That's so... American. And yet, it's not like the Americans invented democracy, they just dwell on it more.

*nods* And it's nice to have something to look forward to in the schedules.

Heh. But yes - Americans can do the struggle for freedom etc so *earnestly* - I mean, just look at the recent elections. Over here we tend to have cynicism and irony instead.
