A couple more things...
I know I've not responded to comments on my last post (will get there later!), but just wanted to add a couple of points by Andrew Sullivan.
From his Live-Blogging Hofstra of the debate:
9.12 pm. McCain is dreadful on taxes. He can't even go on the attack successfully on solid Republican ground. But I find myself tuning out. Obama is boring. McCain is coming off cranky.
9. 43 pm. Obama on Biden: zzzzzz.
9.57 pm. Some readers seem to think my description of Obama as boring is meant as a criticism. Subjectively, maybe it doesn't give me a Lowry. But objectively, it's brilliant. The first black president will only get there by boring a lot of white people. And haven't we had enough drama in the last eight years? Boring is f*cking awesome after Bush.
And from Sunday's article in The Sunday Times:
And still he [Obama] is calm. Not too cocky. A little aloof, but very professional. He learnt all of this as a black man in a white country: no sudden moves; no anger. That’s how he managed his white mother in adolescence. That’s how he manages a white electorate increasingly at ease with him. And, by a massive stroke of luck, that’s what voters want now. In an economy that is melting down, with two wars still raging, they want calm above everything else. They want to know that the man in charge will not panic, will not be flustered, will not blow up.
They need a Valium. They can now vote for one for president.
Will go away now, promise. There is a SO MUCH housework to do, not to mention fic-writing...
ETA: I bring you

My pleasure. :)
just hope to make it to elections without becoming a nervous wreck, and hope that elections will be held, and that the country won't collapse, and that the scary people won't get into the White House
I *know*! Darcy keeps saying that of course Obama will win, but... *bites nails* I just want it to be over and the sensible people to get in.
have you seen "Obama and the spider?
Yes I have! (How did I become obsessed with politics???)
Funny stuff, and I liked somebody's reply that McCain would've probably eaten the spider. After the last debate it's easy to imagine. :)
I can just see him scowl at it! :)
