elisi | Lots of DW recs!

So, in the aftermath of the S4 finale I've been reading, and watching, and this is all the stuff that really struck me.

First of all Donna. This post by

selenak (which looks at parallels/foreshadowing between Agatha Christie and Donna) has made me feel *so* much better!

dana_cz made a vid that I love to distraction: Everything Burns. Donna and the Doctor. Angsty, obviously, but how! The song is perfect.

And then there's the Doctor... I love meta-vids, and

phantasmagoracy made an amazing one: Hurt (song by Johnny Cash). These are the notes (which really struck me, and I think are spot-on!):

I had been pretty upset at the Doctor, especially for how he treated Rose. Running away without even saying goodbye? Come on! And then I realized: he's punishing himself! Davros' words really, really got to him, and he suddenly had all that post-Gallifrey guilt driven home at once. The idea that he turns people into soldiers, into weapons, is very distressing for him. This is why he's pushing everyone away. This is why the episode (and the series!) ends with him sad and alone with the TARDIS. He wants someone around, obviously, but he feels like he doesn't deserve it.

(I think this might actually explain a lot about his relationship with River - the way she still has 'her own life', despite how close she is to the Doctor. Like he somehow wants to keep his distance.)

Also all this new canon is bringing up old topics, and

copperbadge (aka

sam_storyteller) has come up with
Sam's Unified Theory Of Everything (Having To Do With The Doctor And Sex). This is the most inspired thing I've ever read, and MAKES SENSE of the loom thing. I am *so* in awe!

Thought I'd add a few non-spoilery recs. First a poem, because fannish poems (I mean truly great poems) are few and far between:

42footprints. Jack-centric, but accessible for non-Who fans too.

And then two Martha fics, both set post-The Year That Wasn't:

Sew It Up, But You Still See The Tear. (She's realized that she wants to build herself a new life, a bigger one, one that can fit people who aren't the last of the Time Lords. Martha in the aftermath. Beautiful and with perfect interactions with her family.)

Valentine's Day, This Year. This one makes me cry. (But in a good way!)
