This is sort of for deborahmm, but I'm sure other people would find it interesting too. It's an article from The Sunday Times, looking at immigration, the East End and British culture - is there such a thing as 'a real cockney'? How English are our traditions really? I found this fascinating and encouraging!

I should probably add that Darcy and I lived in the East End for 3 years (in Stepney Green, Limehouse and Stratford), and enjoyed it very much! :)

Hee. I read it and thought of you... and as it happens our next door neighbours are a mixed couple (he's Pakistani), and their two little girls come round nearly every day to play with mine. (The fact that the youngest gets on my nerves more than should be humanly possible is another point all together!)

Well, children are children and sometimes they can be mightily annoying, no matter who they are.

That's it... I cannot see how some people think race has anything to do with it!

The main point is, of course, that the children always have someone to play with, which is very much of the good. :)
