A day late and a penny short...

::looks at subject line:: You know that 'penny' thing would be funny, if it wasn't so sad...

Anyway, this is just a v. quick update to say that I'm back and to explain *why* I'm late and poor.

OK, first of all Scotland was lovely and we had a wonderful time and I'll do my best to write a post about it when I have some spare time. For now, I'll have to go with that Mastercard thing (I don't have a Mastercard and am not in any way affiliated with them. Many apologies for ripping off their ads):

***

'New' car, bought less than a month ago, now totalled and - because we only had 3rd party insurance - not going to be in any way compensated for: £400.

Bill for recovery and for getting the caravan towed back down here (and us going with it): £300.

Everyone being absolutely fine (without a single scratch!) after the car skidded off the road, went through a low drystone wall, down into a field and *rolled over*: Priceless.

***

This happened Saturday btw, so most of the holiday was gone already. Things I feel I have to pass on:

- ALWAYS wear a seatbelt. ALWAYS.
- Small winding Scottish roads are kinda dangerous when it's been raining lots.
- It is *immensely* helpful to have family living in the place where you holiday.
- Hug your family and be grateful.
- I really like St Ninian. (We were on our way back from Whithorn, when we crashed.)

I also - just to change the subject completely - got a lot of writing done. Actual writing with pencil on paper. Odd, but satisfying. I finished 'Not The Last' (DW fic, 11 handwritten pages, chapters 2-5) and (I know this sounds bizarre) the sequel to the sequel to 'Maybe Someday'. It's set *years* after the end of those stories, and is v. tragic (so sort of AU), but I wrote down the first 2 chapters ages ago and had the idea for the rest for a long time - and finally now worked out how to end it. So, I wrote it. 26 pages. And you probably won't see it for years considering how slow my writing's going otherwise... Um, not sure that had a point, although I was wondering any of you other writers do this - write the end way, way before you've finished the main story?

Anyway, Darcy has just been looking at me like that and there's *tons* of stuff to sort out, so I will run. If you wrote/made/saw anything interesting please link me, because there is no way I'll be able to catch up. Although I will answer comments as soon as I can.

Lots of love to you all!

Elisi

Glad to hear everyone's okay!

Wow, that must have been quite the experience!
So glad to hear that you're all okay. You're right everything else is of no consequence when you think of what might have happened.

[identity profile] zandra-x.livejournal.com 2007-08-13 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank goodness everybody is all right, and now it's just a family story about the time the car went crashing through a wall.

What a terrifying thing to happen! So glad everyone is okay. *hugs you*

I'm just glad you're all OK. That sounds awful.

And yes, I have been known to write the end of a story then wonder how on earth to get there. (I think that's why starting in medias res was inventred in the first place - don't bother with a start, just skip straight to the grand climax...)

You probably don't want to hear about all the high drama and panicking that LJ's been causing lately, if you've been safely (?) out of it in Scotland...

Things I've done interesting lately that i'm not sure if you've seen? Um... Two pieces of fic (Buffy-Willow and the prequel which is Buffy/Willow/Tara), one essay on "Willow, Faith and repentance", one video about Spike, a review of 8.05 and a meta-essay on "Identity, Choice and Heroism in 'The Chain' which somehow spun off into a commentary on the Iraq war and the German-Soviet invasion of Poland in 1939...

Welcome back!
:)

OMGosh!! I am so glad you and your family are ok. That is just a little too much excitement - maybe next time you could ratchet it down some??

Once again - glad you are safe and sound.

[identity profile] the-royal-anna.livejournal.com 2007-08-13 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh no! I'm so glad you are all safe and sound, at least. I'd been wondering where you had got to and hoping all was well, so it's lovely to hear from you, even though I'm very sorry for your unexpected excitement!

{{{hugs you all tightly}}}

What, all of you, including the baby, in a car that crashed through a wall and rolled over, and you're all absolutely fine? - Give that guardian angel a big tip from me!

I'm very glad indeed that you're all safe. What a terrifying experience - bad enough if it had been just you, but with your little ones on board that moment of panic after you landed must have been heartstopping. You're right about how it puts everything else into perspective though.

We had our midimeet in Nottingham which was very good indeed. Look on the [livejournal.com profile] writerconuk for pics - there will probably be details all over the rest of your flist too.

*So* glad to hear you're all alright. That sounds terrifying. I've been to Whithorn and I do remember that those roads are very small and windy!

Welcome back and many hugs.

Oh, honey! {{hugs}} I'm so very glad that you and your family are okay, but what a horrible way to end a vacation. {{hugs, hugs, hugs}}

Wait..you rolled the car?

!!!!

Thank goodness everyone is okay. I can't even imagine how frightening that must have been. And you're right, compared to everything that could have happened, it's only money.

((HUGS))
