Secondly, I've been looking around for this crossover fic that I read ages ago, and remembered as being very good, and finally I found it. It's BtVS/Firefly, with Spike and River. A wonderful little gem of a fic: Given Name. Please go read! :)

And lastly, because this post is turning out decidedly random, I thought I'd post this meme I gacked from avrelia a good few weeks ago.

I have been and signed. Daughter-dear's school (secondary) have chips available only one day a week, which sounds pretty good. Mind she says that she will often have them on that day just because she can, whereas she managed to not have chips for lunch for more than a year whilst they were available every day! (We can actually check if we want - school can provide a print-out of everything any individual child has eaten for the last six months, because everything is done on a smart-card system!)

The problem at her school is that if you are on prefect duty or late lunch or whatever, the healthiest stuff has often gone - the kitchen can only cope with producing so much salad, so many baked potatoes and so on every day apparently, and make up the required number of portions (about 1000+) with burgers etc. They do have a good range of sandwiches, many on wholemeal bread as well, or so I'm told. Although she does complain that the curries can be rather boring and bland, and so can the pasta!

Can I just say how much I love your icon?

Your daughter's school sounds very good. I'm not sure about the situation at my oldest primary, but she's never been remotely interested in having dinners and so has always had a packed lunch. And we always have a proper dinner in the evening, so it works out rather well.

I watched the last of Jame's School Dinners the other night - isn't it so typical that he does all that hard work, finally sits down with the minister and explains everything and he is amenable - then 2 days later there's a change in minister?

Yep, I liked it a lot! I meant to leave a comment on it earlier, but then I got busy with writing HTML code and forgot. I think you handled Buffy and Spike's conversation wonderfully, though, and I especially like Buffy sympathizing with his plight as a ghost. I've always loved the parallel that was there, how neither of them could feel anything when they were brought back against their will but in different ways. And I like how frightened they both still are at the thought of trying a true relationship between them. I don't know what it all means anymore than Buffy and Spike do, but I'm looking forward to finding out. :)

*Thank you* - maybe if enough people say it, I'll finally start believing it - I just try to put across how I see them and then hope and pray that it meshes with how other people view them too.

This is the other Disc World icon I acquired from the same source! They are brilliant books - but I think he improved as they went on - so The Colour of Magic and The Light Fantastic may not be the best place to start. But neither would somewhere like The Truth or The Fifth Elephant as they are a bit too far into the sequence.

We started reading them to Daughter-dear at Equal Rites, as the heroine is a smallish girl - The Wee Free Men would have been a good place to start reading them to her if she'd been younger as it also stars a little girl, but it wasn't around then!

Although..ummm.. it still feels weird to me to think that there would be people out there I've never actually met who would value my opinion. I'm still not used to the the whole having friends thing. *blushes*

Well, whenever I do get around to reading the series, I'll just start at one end and work my way through... I'm very pedantic when it comes to things like that. I even read The Silmarillion so I'd better understand The Lord of the Rings!

There are two or three threads which run seperately, just occassionally touching. Although I meant it more as a warning - if you don't think a lot of the first couple, keep on in there because they just keep on improving.

Good to know! And I think that's often the case - no-one will say that S1 of Buffy is especially brilliant (compared to the rest of the series, not to regular tv), but it's certainly worth sticking with! :)
