Spangel pimp!

Yesterday [livejournal.com profile] germaine_pet AND [livejournal.com profile] kita0610 posted fic: Memory Shines Like Teeth and Moonlight. NC-17 Spike/Angel specifically. Now saying that it is hot, is like saying that Spike and Buffy had a mild exchange of words in 'Smashed'... it does in no possible way convey the sheer scorching, screen melting, breathtaking force of this piece. Because although she claims that it is 'pretty much just pure porn', the interactions between our two favourite vampires are just incredible. OK, so these two slowly opening up and being *actually* intimate is like a major, overriding kink of mine, but Sweet Powers Above it is well done...

The word "miss" never entered into any of their post-reunion conversations. Nor the word "you," unless it was followed by an expletive.

Angel wanted to call Spike on that, to push and claw until they were back on familiar ground. Angel didn't have a map for this. Angel didn't have a fucking clue.

"Ok," is what came out of his mouth instead. Because it turned out, he wanted this more.

*wibbles and iz ded*

This fic actually made me think (again) about why I like Spangel. Having recently discussed it with different people who enjoy their friendship but do not have any interest more - and having once been of that mindset myself - I’ve realised something.

First of all Spike/Angel is not *the* pairing OMG - I’m happy leaving them friends or whatever. That’s fine - I like reading that, I like writing it. But what is so delicious about them is that the show - just like with Spike and Buffy in BtVS S5 - brought them right up to the line where a relationship is *possible*. Not inevitable, but it could happen. And exploring the possibilites inherent in that, going down different paths towards something more is fascinating. It’s the eternal enchantment of fanfic - all the different ‘what if’s spread out in front of us. What could trip them over the edge and into bed?

There was more, but I can't be bothered right now...

Alas, if only someone would write Spangel that well which was not chock full of daddykink, because nothing turns me off faster than Spike calling Angel Daddy. :/

I don't run screaming from it, but it's not my kink, and it's so all-pervasive in Spangel that I've gotten really burnt out it.

Thank you so much for the lovely rec! However, I feel compelled to point out that this piece was co-written with [livejournal.com profile] kita0610, and that the passage you quote is one of hers. :) It's gorgeous, isn't it? (I think my favorite part is, "Angel didn't have a map for this. Angel didn't have a fucking clue." Heeee. It's so them!)

RPG stands for "role-playing game." Each writer takes on the role of a character, and they "tag" each other back and forth, writing as if they were in that character's head. It's usually written in first-person POV, but I find third-person much easier, so Kita indulged me. ;)
