While the Onion buying InfoWars is indeed extremely funny, very few of the posts I've seen commenting on the sale have mentioned that the families of the Sandy Hook victims apparently agreed to voluntarily reduce their lawsuit payout as part of a deal to ensure that the Onion would acquire InfoWars wholesale, rather than having the company broken up and auctioned off piecemeal, as the latter course could potentially have allowed some of those pieces to end up back in the hands of Alex Jones' cronies.

Apparently The Onion is doing a print version now (or again, I guess, after a very long time), and there was a message I saw from them that basically said, about the Infowars purchase, "This is the sort of thing we do with your money. Give us money?" And I went, actually, you know what, yes, OK, and shelled out a monthly donation for the subscription. Seldom have I seen a more effective solicitation for funds. :)

I reread the Alex Jones Wiki page to remind me how awful he is, and rather liked this section

"In August 2024, Jones suggest he might relocate to Russia after Vladimir Putin signed a decree offering sanctuary to those who shared traditional values".

I think that's a move I would heartily approve of! I hope he goes through with it...

IF ONLY. I remember reading an article about some MAGA types who moved to Russia (like a married couple with kids) and the reality was quite different to what they expected. >:)
