First of all a Happy Belated Birthday to rahirah! No need to pimp her work, surely?

Second I had a look at the sneak preview of issue 2 of S8 and it makes me want to tear my hair out in frustration. Why oh why does no one look like themselves? It's as off-putting and irritating as fanfic with misspellings and grammatical errors. Takes me right out of the story.

The change in the way people look seems to be very consistent. I have to believe that, not only was it done intentionally, but that they believe there's a real reason for it. Somewhere I read an interview with Joss where he mentions something about making them look more like comic book heros. So, I don't know if he did it to try to attract the "comic" crowd or I wonder if he made them look more like the people we know, would he have to pay them royalties? No idea, just a wild guess. :) Either way I agree with you, it's very hard to read the comic and not be distracted by the pictures.

it's so weird when you have to guess which character is which...
I can't tell them apart. all these slayerwannabees look the same, just with different hair colors. i refuse to learn their names ;)
and I want my characters to look like themselves again, dammit.

so, yeah, again, I'm not impressed by the artwork...

Ha. I thought it was just me. I kept having to guess who each person was. 'Is this a new person or someone we know already?' And about 50% of the time I was wrong and didn't realize it until someone called another by name. REALLY distracting.

I recently learned there's a comic book store near my workplace. I can totally see myself heading there after work each time a new issue of Buffy comes out. When did I become a geek? LOL

The characters need name tags or something. I skimmed through Issue 2 and am totally confused b/c half the time I dunno who's saying what.

Good for them! I just don't understand *why* they took the looks so far away from what they should be...

Oh yes, I remember reading something too - something about making sure that they 'don't look like the actors' (which mostly made me go WTF??? because the actors became the characters)... possibly something to do with establishing them as comic books characters in their own right.

Either way I agree with you, it's very hard to read the comic and not be distracted by the pictures.
The pictures are supposed to *help*, surely? *g* Also the artwork is just very... *thinks*... adequate. I'd like if it was more interesting. Or just prettier.

I never learned the name of a single potential when I first watched S7 - and not because I didn't like them, just because I'm hopeless with names! ;)

Apparently that's one wish that won't get fulfilled... although oddly the close-up of Amy's eyes was *excellent*.

Xander has an eyepatch, so he's easy. Dawn is huge. Buffy is the blonde girl who looks nothing like Buffy. And - I've been told by people who usually read comics - Spike apparently always looks like Spike. *cheers*
