Just some links

LA Times article: Opinion: I’m an American doctor who went to Gaza. What I saw wasn’t war — it was annihilation.

A link I might have posted before, but is still excellent:

Everything You Know About Obesity Is Wrong
For decades, the medical community has ignored mountains of evidence to wage a cruel and futile war on fat people, poisoning public perception and ruining millions of lives.
It’s time for a new paradigm.

Which leads me to recommending Maintenance Phase (Wellness and weight loss, debunked and decoded), my favourite podcast bar none. (With many thanks to [personal profile] lirazel for recommending it!) They're just the most delightful hosts and it feels like sitting around with good friends having a chat.

And finally a lovely article sort of about Our Flag Means Death:

The shows we love are important to us, and protest can be healthy.

The obesity feature is very interesting. I wonder if a lot of the issue is the lack of education about how to cook. It still amazes me that people don't cook at all for themselves and don't understand food. I'm not saying that contributes to the rise in obesity, but I do think that if we were all better educated about food (and perhaps so much high fat/over-processed food wasn't so readily available) people would make better dietary choices from an early age. I also think that all the tables for 'ideal' weight etc were the beginning of the end as they were designed by men, and no adjustments were made for women and the different ratios for body fat that we have.

Such a big subject!
