The Woniverse

The Whoniverse lands tomorrow.

And RTD has an Instagram post.

(Am too tired to add pictures, but it looks very shiny!)

ETA: And on Tumblr.

*glee*

Vicki and Steven . . . *whistles* That is a deep, deep cut.

When RTD said everything, he meant EVERYTHING.
I like everything!

(Except for An Unearthly Child, which is of course being held hostage. Lee (the_redjay) had an argument with the hostage holder on Xitter, and apparently he is very cross with fandom in general - and with some guy called Kevin in particular - and wants an apology!)
Yes, I've been vaguely following that. That's too funny that Lee actually engaged them. It's so deeply petty that I just have to laugh. I was not aware of the detail about Kevin, though frankly, that's kind of one of those names, isn't it?

Although I guess it proves how Xitter is just terrible now. *g*
My one consolation is I assume we're pronouncing that 'zitter.' Which is like some unholy cross between 'zit' and 'shitter.' Entirely appropriate.

And the vibe of someone throwing all his toys out of the pram in spite is hilarious.
A+ gif usage; would lol again.

oh Boy- 'very cross' is putting it lightly. At least- that what it looks like from this thread about it.

Yeah. Idk how much of it is just hearsay, but honestly- I wouldn't be surprised if the dude's really gone that deep down the rabbit hole bcuz conspiracy theories are a helluva drug.

Vicki and Steven . . . *whistles* That is a deep, deep cut.

I watched their intro first! <3

(I woke up too early this morning; there was DW on my iPlayer. So I have not watched the full serials they're sort of wrapped around yet, but I watched each intro, and *looks at your icon* lasted about 5 seconds into the Jamie and Zoe one before I was crying.)

Alas, I am an American, so I will have to wait for *cough* the internet to provide, so I am quite jealous. Very interested to see what they're doing with it and which serials they chose. Back for the 50th BBC America had a really nice series where they had 30-minute episodes about each Doctor with a bunch Who-involved people talking about each era and then leading into a representative serial for each--kind of a get-to-know-the-Classic-Era sample platter. Well, they went with Tomb of the Cybermen for Two and, like, I know it's exciting that it exists and only has four episodes and, sure, that scene with Two and Victoria is nice, but like . . . most of it is quite boring and it's probably one of the single most racist serials in all of Classic Who. I know the choices are a bit limited but . . . do better! Already shaking my head knowing that somebody, somewhere, despite all difficulties and disincentives, is going to watch the 60th and decide The Celestial Toymaker is going to be their first Classic Who, and then their soul will die.

I watched their intro first! <3
How was it? I like both of them, but I confess I had to remember they they even had episodes together.

but I watched each intro, and *looks at your icon* lasted about 5 seconds into the Jamie and Zoe one before I was crying.
Oh god . . . *wibbles* Theirs is definitely the one I'm most interested in. War Games was the first Two I saw and it was amazing, of course, but then later I watched the whole era in order (to the extent that's possible), and saw the end of War Games again and oh god my heart.

Second most invested in Five and Tegan (fav Classic companion, if you twist my arm), but they had a nice moment in Power of the Doctor, so that's less pressing.

It looks as though the BBC are themselves providing - the intros & insert pieces seem to be going up on YT as we speak here: https://www.youtube.com/@doctorwhotube3638/videos ETA: all up now, def not geolocked, unsure how absolutely complete they are (but certainly looks like the majority of it)

(At least one of the commenters in the one I looked at said they were in Australia, so hopefully not geo-locked for you!)

The stories they chose are pretty solid ones, IMO - The Time Meddler, The Mind Robber, The Three Doctors, Earthshock, Vengeance on Varos and The Curse of Fenric. (So, having Seven and Ace meet up and be, hey, we need to talk about Fenric, out of all of them, just felt so logical, because they do, they really do!)

Second most invested in Five and Tegan (fav Classic companion, if you twist my arm)

I love Tegan! I don't know who's my favourite, but she's one of them. <3

I met Jamie and Zoe in the books first, so I kind of did go through all their adventures! I watched TWG when I was at uni, because the town library had a handful of DW videos, and you could rent them - but for one night only. As a part of my student experience, picking it up on a Friday afternoon and binge watching it most of it that evening, and finishing it the next morning while everyone else was out partying somewhere and leaving the tiny utility room with TV and bean bags to me and my weird HEARTBREAKING 60s TV was something I've never forgotten. (10/10 would recommend.)

How was it? I like both of them, but I confess I had to remember they they even had episodes together.

So sweet and strange to see it! Only one and a half of their stories together survive, but they both were from the future and in very isolated, awful situations when the Doctor & co found them and they always seemed to bond very quickly & because The Time Meddler was the first actual full DW serial I saw after Seven and Ace (the wilderness years were fun, not) thanks to BBC repeating one per Doctor back in the early 90s, I have a lot of fondness for them as an underrated, burninated team TARDIS. Plus, I love Vicki generally.)

Ooo, thank you muchly. Good news indeed.

Yeah, you could do much worse. Well, I say that with no great love for Three Doctors, Earthshock, or Vengeance. But I'm not like 'why, why would you pick that?'

So, having Seven and Ace meet up and be, hey, we need to talk about Fenric, out of all of them, just felt so logical, because they do, they really do!
Yeah, that sounds excellent. Honestly, Earthshock and Vengeance seem somewhat similar to me. In the 'hey, we probably have massive unfinished emotional business about this, maybe we should talk about it' sense. Just the word 'Adric' in Power of the Doctor added about five years to my life, I think. And lord knows Six and Peri is a whole disaster that needs addressing outside the realms of Big Finnish.

I love Tegan! I don't know who's my favourite, but she's one of them. <3
Bless her shouty heart <3 Wildly under-appreciated, and she was basically there for Five's entire run! (My other main faves are Leela, Polly, Liz Shaw, Barbara, Zoe . . .)

Aaaaaah, that sounds amazing! That is quite the time crunch, but also I can see it making it all more intense.

Makes a lot of sense. I'd forgotten that sort of shared background thing, given how piecemeal Steven's run is. And the Time Meddler really is fun, so if you have to watch one . . .

Plus, I love Vicki generally.
Me too! It feels bad to say it, but Susan leaving was the best thing to happen to the early show. My One-era happy place is Ian and Barbara canoodling while One and Vicki run around like a pair of juvenile delinquents. (Apparently my One-era happy place is The Romans. Kinda rape-y for a happy place, but there we are.)

That is the best One-era happy place, definitely.

Apparently my One-era happy place is The Romans.

Never forget One accidentally giving Emperor Nero the idea to burn Rome to the ground.

Ahhhh, memories <3

The Romans really is a gem if you can look past the rape attempts. Actually, guess that applies to most of the One era.
