Eurovision 2022
So, I am going to try to do a live commenting thing. I have heard the British song (watched the video, and omg we have a good song? Surely the world is going mad), and have seen a bit of the Norwegian one (I approve of everything they choose to be), but of course most of all:
Слава Україні (Slava Ukraini)
I have not heard the Ukrainian song, but in the past they have produced some of the greatest Eurovision performances ever! Tanzen, everyone! :D

1. Czech Republic. Darcy's comment: 'Well this won't have suffered from being first.'
2. Romania. Shiny people (like glistening, did someone polish them?), in red. Very dancy. Suffering from The Great Italian Short Shirtage (thank you Graham!). Ah, the singer took his short off!
3. Portugal. Darcy's comment: 'Nice and not interesting enough.' V pretty and beautiful harmonising. All standing in a circle.
4. Finland. I did not realise this was The Rasmus!!! (Love them, have the album.) My mother REALLY liked that. ^_^ (Child of the 60s). Nice to have a bit of rock.
5. Switzerland. The Cherub is shushing me, she seems to like this one. Balladdddd. Nice boy, with nice voice.
6. France! Not sure how to descibe it, but I think I like it.
7. Norway. GIVE THAT WOLF A BANANA! :D (Graham Norton making a comment about how they cleverly are anonymous & wearing masks...) Such fun. Graham: "You just heard the word 'Yum' 90 times."
8. Armenia. Graham: "If you are wondering who bought all that toilet paper at the start of lockdown, turns out it was her..." Sweet song and very clever staging.
9. Italy. 9th song, so had a drink for Wogan. <3 The song is... not my thing. But everyone seems to love it, so good for them!
10. Spain. Well, here come the scantily clad beauties, dancing & singing!
11. Netherlands. Damn, this is a really good song, sung by a really good singer.
12. Ukraine. Very Eurovision, a fun mix-up of styles & genres. I wish them well.
13. Germany. Guy with a guitar. Perfectly fine, quite 'chatty'. Not really my thing tho.
14. Lithuania. This one's Kerk's favourite. Graham Norton said it was very retro (Eurovision circa '74), and it has been described as 'spooky disco'. Very classic Bond. V good & unusual.
15. Azerbaijan. Oooh nice. The singer was described as a good vocalist, and he sure is. Iiiinteresting.
16. Belgium. My mother: Oh he's like the new Doctor Who! (That is: He's Black & has short blond hair... *facepalm*) ANYWAY. I rather liked that.
17. Greece. Another big ballad, but this one's about double suicide? Ah, apparently it's from a musical.
18. Iceland. Lovely, but kinda underwhelming? (Darcy's comment: 'Wallpaper. From about 1972.')
19. Moldova. OMG. Finally someone with a polka. :D *spontaneous applause*
20. Sweden. Graham: 'The modern masters of Eurovision'. Hmm, not sure. I mean, she can sing. Darcy reckons it's like Gloria Gaynor (big power ballad type thing).
21. Australia. Graham: 'I don't know why! Build a bridge, get over it.' LOL And this appears to be the evening's Primadonna. You go be fabulous. (Not terribly keen on the song, but BLESS HIM.)
22. UK. Space maaaaan. Go Sam Ryder. Don't think we'll *win*, but I think we'll do well.
23. Poland. Oh this is lovely. My mother: "Oh he's a perfectly normal man in a suit." I rather like this.
24. Serbia. Something about the problems with private health care? This is why we love Eurovision, the sheer weirdness & unpredictability.
Family Whatsapp group messages:
Darcy: Serbia are going to get some votes from us. And they should
Impish Girl: They were absolute freaks
Impish Girl: Very Gaga
Darcy: That was the best three minutes of a Serbian woman repeatedly washing her hands I've ever seen.
25. Estonia. Another guy with a guiter, but as Graham said, this boy's got it! Good song, v catchy.
Other observations..
Re. the hosts, then there's the guy in the black, the girl in a succession of weird dresses, and then the guy in the PINK suit, which is awesome.
My votes go to Ukraine, Moldova, Norway, Netherlands & Estonia. :)
And we are... in the lead??? WTF?? Wait wait wait, we got TWELVE POINTS FROM GERMANY?
This is the most exciting Eurovision I can remember. :O
Of course, thejury phone votes will probably turn everything upside down...
Time stamp: 23:12
ETA: ALSO 12 points from France.
And WELL DONE US!
Last year: Nil points
This year: 2nd place!!
(also we & Ukraine exchanged mutual 12 points <3)
ETA: Apparently Sam Ryder is also one of the nicest people alive:

Oooh, neat! And yeah, there's no real 'ranking', just 'these are cool songs'!
Congrats to UK on the 2nd place! But I'm really happy that Ukraine won. Not just because they could use the moral support, but it's seriously a good song.
Yeah, I'd have voted for it either way. But then Ukraine is good at Eurovision songs. :)

Had a really great conversation as a result of a comment I made on a facebook post, and the witty reply I got to it. Aussie she is, so of course she's obsessed by Eurovision. :-)
Having all sorts of issues with both laptops, and have a DVD I was watching stuck in one until Monday, but not at risk of being hit by shells during a live broadcast, so who gives a shit.
Should try and get a new DVD of that movie anyway; so good it deserves a new copy.
Got Saving Face playing right now, and discovered a lesbian movie out of Iran from 2011 as a result of digging up things for an old friend who recently discovered she has Jewish, Kurdish & Iranian relatives all over the world.
Think it's just sinking in how much her family tree has expanded, and all the places she might get a chance to visit in the future. Apparently a TV series she's in has, or is about to, start showing on the BBC.

I think you mean 'this' year... *g* But, despite what you think, it was a good song!
Honestly most shocked by how well Spain did; I liked it, but to finish third was a real shock.
Expected it to do well with the public, but it did really well with the juries... idk, the song did nothing for me. But they were very pretty & limber. *shrug*

^_^ And that's what it's all about - bonding and sharing the love.

Hope your issues get sorted, but yeah, we are all very fortunate.

Lemme know if you need me to do anything. :)

*faints* Whyever not?? (/rhetorical question, it's just so unusual *g*)
but sounds like a good result 😊
It was. Very exciting!

In all, the results were very unexpected - I thought there'd be more 'support points' for Ukraine, but I think it's good that they weren't a landslide winner, because it makes it more difficult for peole to dismiss it as just a pity win.

The disbelief was real! And he seems like such a nice guy, he very much deserved it.

It was interesting, because they were... 4th after the jury points? And then they got that MASSIVE 400 points from the telly votes, which was like all of Europe just going 'WE LOVE YOU'. So lovely. <3

Iceland's Eurovision performers have been very vocal in support of Trans rights and one is the very proud Mom of a Trans child.

This line stood out to me...
The first competition was held two years prior with the intention of uniting the war-torn continent in the wake of World War II.
