Update from the house of Self-Isolation (Day 98 of Year 2)
Pandemic life:
Got a text this morning (6.19am) to say that all of Year 10 would be at home today due to three positive cases (one confirmed by PCR, the other two pending) and that hopefully most of them could return tomorrow. The 15 y.o.’s response: ‘Wow don’t love that’
Anyway, by 9am she was at her desk in front of her computer in her Totoro onesie…
It’s funny, because I’ve been wondering when to stop doing daily posts, and this was a nice reminder that HEY THERE’S STILL A PANDEMIC HAPPENING. Such fun. ETA: I mean, of course the pandemic is still there - life is all masks and social distancing and hand sanitiser, but I guess it's just become the norm.
But wait - it gets better!
This afternoon we had a message through that the eldest (who was here Friday-Sunday and has had both jabs) has covid! She's done 3 tests and they're all positive, so even though she hasn't had a PCR test yet it seems pretty conclusive. However we will all need to isolate until next week, yay! Here's to hoping we avoid being plagued (all tests are negative so far). And we had actual plans this week for going places and doing things!

Daily Dimash: Mademoiselle Hyde
Yet another Lara Fabian original - Igor Krutoy wrote the music and Lara wrote the lyrics, which has now been adapted for Dimash. Yet another gorgeous tune and the staging is A+.
Dimash - Mademoiselle Hyde ~ New Wave 2019 Sochi (Aug 24-29)
Lara Fabian performing the song:
Lara Fabian "Mademoiselle Hyde", New Wave 2016 Sochi
~
This is an earlier performance, having been uploaded on 24 March 2019. Much more intimate - a small stage surrounded by a select audience, with an orchestra in the background.
And then this performance from his Arnau Tour (11.03.20). Quite a dramatic set-up, with dancers to illustrate the story.
Also a reaction video, since The Charismatic Voice did one on both Lara & Dimash, comparing & contrasting:
Dimash Kudaibergen + Lara Fabian "Mademoiselle Hyde" REACTION & ANALYSIS by vocal coach/opera singer
ETA: Oooh, the fans made a music vid! Nicely edited, and damn I wish Dimash would do some actual acting. He's definitely got it.

Indeed it is, and going very badly in a number of places. I was listening this morning to a news segment with public health administrators about looking back to see how the response should have differed at the beginning and thinking "Hey, how about questioning how it should differ right now?" We are not at herd immunity and you (the news media) hardly ever talk about long Covid which means some people may be living with this for good (for all we know) and vaccines are a shield but not a guarantee of immortality. How about not acting like everything's in the past?
As it happens Mike went for a walk yesterday and stopped at a fast food place for some ice cream. He came home without it because they are still serving people only through the drive through. This is likely a result of employee shortages since there are no restrictions now, but it's a good reminder that things have not just snapped back to 2019 because of government decrees.
I hope your daughter has only a mild case and all is well soon. Everything's in her favor so she should have a good outcome. But she's not alone in being a statistical point. I heard a story about cruises resuming but even if everyone is vaccinated, if you get enough people together someone will still have it.

Oh Lord, THIS. The reason we're having a surge now is because the government delayed way too much in stopping flights from India (because they were courting them for a trade deal). It's like every step of the way when they could have done something right or wrong, they chose wrong. *hands* We've opened up in part (shops etc are open), but masks and social distancing are still mandatory, no big crowds (apart from football apparently??) etc. I'm skeptical of the 19th of July being the end of it. Like - covid won't just magically disappear in the next month!

Here's to lasting change (of the kind that improves things overall)! I can dream, right?

This. And cruises are terrible for the environment apparently, so maybe let's rethink them.

Indeed, we all know that viruses abide by calendars (and specific ones, apparently). It was rather like this at the beginning too. "By X date we will have mask requirements." This is fair enough in terms of time for businesses who need to create signage, train (and perhaps equip) employees and prepare procedures. And maybe too for the average person to locate a mask. But it's not like you should wait until that date if you have the option! Similarly there's no reason to stop wearing them if it's feasible or to continue to avoid crowded places if it isn't necessary. I wish public health officials would say so because it seems like simple logic.

Obviously. Viruses are very careful to always check what day it is.

This, so much! But logic doesn't seem to be a thing at the moment...
Also, I love your icon. :D

Oh no! Hope y'all are ok. But that is very annoying at the least.
Pandemic is still happening indeed.
Today I went into stores without a mask. It was weird.

<3 And here's to hoping!
Pandemic is still happening indeed.
It will be with us foreeeeeeever....
Today I went into stores without a mask. It was weird.
:O I'm not sure I'd dare.

I'm glad you all have some partial protection.
It will be with us foreeeeeeever....
Well. They say that may very well be the case . . . (LOL, remember when we thought this would be over in a month?)
:O I'm not sure I'd dare.
*shrugs* I have been well and truly officially fully vaccinated for several weeks now. The vaccine I got has been shown to be effective against the variants that are most common around here now (the Delta variant is not yet prominent, though I'm sure we'll get there. I think the British one--Alpha?--is still the main strain here.) And at the end of the day I've already had it and have been living the consequences for over a year. There's not much more this thing can do to me unless it evolves into something truly vaccine-crushing. At some point you do have to trust the science and stop living in fear, I guess.

Darcy is obviously not feeling well, but then he only has to HEAR of someone being unwell and he goes down. He's booked a proper PCR test, so we'll see. But yeah, we've both had the first jab, so even if we get plagued we should be more or less okay.

*snort* I don't know. It's so long ago...

Fair enough. I just don't want you out of action for another year+

aieee!! I'm hearing more and more anecdotes about vaccinated people still getting the Delta variant. I hope she doesn't get very sick!

And yes, people are still getting it - just with milder symptoms (which is good), but it stresses the importance of still keeping to the rules.

Both Darcy & I have had our first jab, and the other young 'uns are healthy, so here's to hoping!

Guess it goes to show how contagious the delta version is - she's a cautious young person, always wearing her mask when out and about.

Anyway she is feeling rotten, but it's like a bad cold, so we're hoping that's the worst of it. She is otherwise young & healthy, so she ought to be okay in the end.

Also she's annoyed cause both jabs made her poorly afterwards, she feels she suffered enough!

I, of course, very rarely get ill, ditto the girls...

She's feeling rotten she says, it's manifesting as a bad cold. Poor thing, she sounds very bunged up.
The thing with the vaccines is they aren't 100% effective but they give you a much lighter bout than no jab at all.
Mmmm. Both Darcy & I have had our first jab, so here's to hoping.
Hopefully your tests will all come back negative!!!
Well we all did home tests yesterday, which were negative, but things can change...

Hopefully you'll stay covid free ♥

And well, Darcy is feeling like crap & has lost his sense of taste & smell so I reckon we are plagued. Well, here goes...

I have made a plan not to have any plans as they keep being disrupted!

So far she is feeling rotten, mostly like a bad cold.

Very wise.

It's more like a cold, which is why she didn't think it was covid, but hey ho... She seems okay so far.
This is what worries me about lifting all the restrictions - it's not gone away has it! Hopefully you'll all escape it.
Thank you. And yes - cases are rising all over. I'm eyeing 19th of July very skeptically.
