"It's... Angel!"
YOU MUST GO SEE 'HOT FUZZ'!!!11!!!!ELEVENTYONE!!1!!
Darcy and I went out last night (cinema and then a meal - heaven!) and this film made me laugh longer and harder than anything I can ever remember! It's by the same people who made 'Shaun of the Dead' (zombie movie in North London), but this one is (IMHO) much better - it's an action thriller set in a sleepy Somerset village... and (something that delighted me *throughout*) the hero is called Angel! Nicholas Angel. It even gets misspelled as 'Angle' at one point. The joy never stopped. But a quick synopsis:
Top London cop, Police Constable Nicholas Angel, finds himself reassigned to the sleepy West Country village of Sandford. With garden fetes and neighbourhood watch meetings replacing the action of the city, Angel struggles to adapt to his situation and finds himself partnered with Danny Butterman, an oafish but well meaning young Constable. Just as all seems lost, a series of grisly accidents motivates Angel into action. Convinced of foul play, Angel realises that Sandford may not be as idyllic as it seems.
The action sequences that take up most of half of the second half are *fantastic* and still make me laugh thinking about them now. And they were way, way cool! Not to mention the 'accidents'... I'm speechless. In a good way of course.
But - another highlight was the friendship between Nicholas and Danny - I realise that one of my biggest kinks ever is male friendship (really, deep friendship that is almost a love story), and this film just nailed it! I mentioned this to Darcy afterwards and his reply was "Yeah - there were a few moments when I thought they were going to get it on!" They don't, but it walks that line perfectly.
Just go see it! Trust me! :)

I adored the supermarket battle in particular - so very telling that it was Somerfield, not Tesco or Sainsbury's - that sort of attention to detail is what made the film, I think. Tim Dalton was amazing - that moustache had a life of its own, I swear. And all those famous people in minuscule bit parts, like Bill Nighy and Steve Coogan, Billie Whitelaw and David Threlfall. The screen was riddled with Oscar and Bafta nominees and winners...
This was a film really worth watching in a cinema, too - the big screen made all the difference to some of those action scenes.

Indeed. I still grin like a lunatic thinking about Angel delivering that flying kick to the farmer's mother's nose - or all the schoolkids (wearing hoods!) running into the shop. As well as all the points you made... *happy sigh*
