Lockdown Update Day 235 (Finally!)

I've been on a trip down memory lane... The world has changed, but oh, I remember those days. Have been listening to this one on repeat for days:

("But in the unlikely story that is America, there has never been anything false about hope.")

Good luck America. ♥ Goodness knows we could use some hope over here...

Round-up from Channel 4. Money quote: "Now, even after Obama was elected for the first time, in 2008, you just didn't see crowds like this. This feels more like the end of a regime than the end of a collectively elected government. The sense of collective relief here is quite extraordinary."

ALSO THIS BECAUSE IT'S FUNNY.

ETA2: Damn. This is powerful.

All of this. Van Jones' reaction was straight from the heart, and echoed hearts across the country; across the world.

And here, this was what I played while I was crying for joy.

Thanks for sharing those Twitter threads. Seeing people coming out to cheer the postal truck made me tear up. Some great comments in the threads, such as "Another mail truck just stopped in front of an outdoor bar to lay on the horn. Not sure any of us grasped how personally postal workers took the last few months."

Listening to things like the recording of horns and cheering in Manhattan makes me think that this is what it must have been like when VE day was declared. I've certainly never seen any response like this to any previous presidential election.

He would be proud today.

The right to vote is precious, almost sacred. It is the most powerful nonviolent tool or instrument in a democratic society. We must use it.

John Lewis and Elijah Cummings are dancing in the clouds right now, along with RBG and so many others who fought for justice and love.

What a day. What a week. Hell, what a year. But as hubby said earlier: at least something good has come out of 2020!

Amazing scenes. What a relief, for so many people. :-)

They were dancing in the streets in New York City. In my neighborhood, people line up along Ocean Parkway and Church Avenue - a major cross section, with noise-makers, and cheered on passing cars - who honked and cheered in response for about two hours. Then people went to Prospect Park and partied. Times Square was filled with people celebrating. Fort Green, Brooklyn's streets were packed. And in front of the White House on the newly renamed Black Lives Matter Parkway, People were celebrating.

It was amazing.

And tonight, I listened to Biden and Harris's President Elect speeches - and it was such a relief to hear someone who was coherent, kind, unifying, professional, who could speak in sentences, didn't insult anyone, and didn't make me want to cringe or run screaming out of the room.

Van Jones has done some stuff to annoy me over the last 4 years, but his reaction was powerful and clearly wasn't faked. Reflected the way I feel - and a lot of people feel.

I was reading an article on dailykos, earlier today, that was listing off a bunch congratulations from various world leaders that had been posted on twitter- along with them saying they look forward to working with 46 & co. <3 I'm pretty sure I'm still mentally crying in relief.

(the only congrats tweet i didn't care to see was boris johnson's.)
