As I saw Seth Meyers say, "Election Day is an invention of modern media. There's a reason why Inauguration Day used to be in March, because it took that long for people to vote, for the votes to be verified; counted and declared. Then you have to go through the Electoral College etc.
The election will not, in fact, be over until the Electoral College sits in a month, or so. All the tallies of Electoral Votes are speculative as the verification has to be completed; electors chosen etc.
Election Day is a modern fiction; in Georgia two elections will be re-run when, hopefully, Biden/Harris becomes a reality.
We were talking about this last night, and Impish Girl (via zoom) said how different it feels to over here. Where you have church/school/sports halls full of grandmas counting votes at ridiculous speed and when the winner is announced there's Lord Buckethead in the background looking like he fell out of Monty Python & the Holy Grail... America just does everything BIGGER.
Seth Meyers suggested just sicc;ing Trumpers on each other; via a clip of a group yelling 'Stop the Count' spliced with a clip of another mob yelling, 'Count the Votes'; and repeat...
Although a ‘Stop the Steal’ facebook group acquired 40,000 members after a similar group was shut down, then changed its name without explanation - to ‘Gay Communists for Socialism’. The Trumpers were very angry! >:)
I have some wonderful images of people trying to explain to 'im int'lavvy that if they did stop the count; the election would be handed to Biden on a plate. Noticed to that large numbers of WH staffers have not turned up for work.

Noticed to that large numbers of WH staffers have not turned up for work. Down at the Labour Exchange? Quite probably.
Interviewer: You appear to have a four year gap on your resume? 2016 - 2020? What were you doing? WH staffer: Um. Just took some time out...
If she wants one. She should be asked what she would prefer. Maybe she could oversee the breakup of the Electoral College and to change the whole country to automatic voter registration?
I was thinking that very thing; though more towards turning what she, and the others, have achieved in Georgia into a Nationwide movement. That John Lewis voting act would be a major start as well.
I remember her stating that, if Joe Biden made the call she'd absolutely be his running mate. I did love the picture a journalist got of Biden writing Kamala Harris' name next to 'bear no grudges' after she'd held him to account for past mistakes.
There are a lot of women, and a few men; coming up who should be given every opportunity to make the changes we all need to see made; not just in the US. Non-binary Muslim in Oklahoma; Trans women who spoke at the DNC in 2016, and was treated abominably by the media in Delaware; one state now has a complete black and female representative slate.
The wind of change is blowing; even if it's going to get a lot more blustery before it passes.
There is something really special about watching election night coverage every night for a week. It's like the Olympics, but awful.
Pod Save America's most recent episode is titled 'We Won' and I've only listened to about two minutes, but I'm now going through something. It's like 'thank you, somebody needs to say it so we can all start processing.'

It's like 'thank you, somebody needs to say it so we can all start processing.' As someone on Twitter said - if the positions had been reversed it would have been called days ago, and Trump would be on TV telling Dr Biden that she was sad for being married to a 'loser'.
ETA: I've been listening this this on repeat. I'll post it once the results are ACTUALLY declared, but dammit it's amazing to feel the echoes of 2008. We're in such a different place, but.
I saw someone remarked that every single 6-figure PIN used by Americans over the next few years will be 264-214. I SAW THAT TOO! :D I lost it again, but yeah.
Oh well. Here's a young Peter Capaldi in a beer commercial. Oh goodness. BABY.

I did love the picture a journalist got of Biden writing Kamala Harris' name next to 'bear no grudges' after she'd held him to account for past mistakes. This. I haven't seen that image, but a lot of people were impressed with the fact that he chose her, because of the way she laid into him in the primaries. No Trump-sized ego there.
There are a lot of women, and a few men; coming up who should be given every opportunity to make the changes we all need to see made; Nodding along to all for this. (The arc of history is long, but it bends towards justice)
The wind of change is blowing; even if it's going to get a lot more blustery before it passes. That is bloody brilliant. It should be on T-shirts!

America just does everything BIGGER. If it makes it all feel any more real to you, I've gotta let you know that the place he's making his acceptance speech tonight is literally a parking lot on the edge of Wilmington, a small city so thoroughly uninteresting The Simpsons had this joke to make about it:
Every time they cut to the stage on tv I'm just like 'this incredible historical moment and, like, I went to the movies there once.' That's... amazing.
And yes and no? It's just the show the election 'going back to its roots'. It still FEELS like a tv show. ;)
Also, this is a painfully accurate summary of the last week:

And we think elections here are complicated!
