How did Martin Luther King manage to make every word of a 3-minute speech perfectly applicable to an election 56 years later!?#Election2020 pic.twitter.com/JaE9Opn2cZ
ETA: omg this thread:
#BREAKING Polls are set to open in 48 hours across the US as the authoritarian regime of Donald Trump attempts to consolidate its hold over the troubled, oil-rich, nuclear-armed, north American nation. Analysts are sceptical the election will end months of political violence.

They keep adding to the thread, it's GOLDEN. Especially like the details such as 'armed militias roaming the streets' and talking about 'the Presidential palace (known locally as 'The White House'). It's so on point.
And I RT'd the St Crispin's Day speech. We are all a band of buggered now, I fear.
We really are. :(
Stay safe, well and strong.
You too! At least we have a plethora of fictional heroes to choose from if we need inspiration.
A day may come when I send an actual email, but it is not this day!
(Anonymous) 2020-11-03 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)Damn, the first one is depressing and a bit scary.
Also, may I recommend: "How to avoid contagious diseases, an ec(h)o from the past" :)

You are MOST welcome. And yes, our sense of humour seem to overlap in all the best ways. :)
Damn, the first one is depressing and a bit scary.
The more things change... Although things ARE different. Things HAVE changed. Which is one reason for the [racist] pushback.
Also, may I recommend: "How to avoid contagious diseases, an ec(h)o from the past" :)
I am not aware of this - do I just google it?

I had forgotten about that. Thank you for reminding me.
And yes, google it, it's an Umberto Eco thing, first result, curse my continuing inability to post links, etc.
Found it! :)
Also I hope you are OK? Hope your studies are going well and won't be too impeded by the new lockdown...

(Anonymous) 2020-11-04 12:05 am (UTC)(link)And yeah, fine so far, they did stress that unis will go on as normal (which in our case means blended learning, depending on the subject). I just hope that the lockdown helps, things get better, and I am able to go home for Christmas.

*crosses fingers & toes* Our government is deeply incompetent, but otoh I don't think they'd risk cancelling Christmas...
