Update from The House of Plague, Day 92
Might have spent parts of the day reading up on how absolutely horrifically transphobic this country is (Vice: Inside the Great British TERF War) - I mean... I knew it was bad, but it's devastating to see it all laid out like that. Not to mention how the government's new plans are perfectly in line with this, and how She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named isn't an outlier.
(Although Mermaids posted a wonderful open letter to her (so MANY articles, but this is one of the best): An open letter to J.K. Rowling)
Speaking of the government staying true to form, there has also been this whole issue:
(Something to put it in perspective.)

But then Michael Sheen popped up on my Twitter TL and reminded me that there are literal angels out there, simply trying to help:
(In short, I'll sit down and count my blessings and donate what I can and lend my support to every campaign going and be a pest unto my MP. I have far more privilege/spoons than most people.)

Welcome to Britain where our government has to be dragged kicking and screaming, against its will, to make sure children have enough to eat.

You can’t wash hands if you don’t have clean water. You can’t stay at home if you're a refugee. Coronavirus threatens lives and hopes of an entire generation of children. So please act with me to help @UNICEF_UK save #GenerationCovid and donate if you can: https://t.co/r3RDjMoWmm pic.twitter.com/iGaYx6scpt

On the other hand, there's this lovely piece of Shakespeare fanfic.

*nods* I know what you mean. Especially now, with all the protests there is something in the air... I really hope it's change. (Although I suspect that things in THIS country will get worse before they get better. But at least some of the issues are being dragged out into the harsh light of day.)

Oh my god that is AMAZING. Literally laughing out loud and then going to share it with the family. :D :D :D

I think that's pretty much a given the way it looks now. And like I said, that's still the optimistic view...

You might say it's a Slam Dunc. (Sorry.)

I sort of combine them? Pessimistically knowing that things have to hit rock bottom before real change can happen, but then hopefully that will prove a proper turning point. (Very much a parallel to America, colouring the past in rosy hues of 'What marvellous people we were and what a wonderful Empire we ran' and having to have a proper national conversation about having done incredible damage in order to enrich ourselves.)
OK, will probably also go away and just write more Good Omens fanfiction, because I need to think about something else.
You might say it's a Slam Dunc. (Sorry.)
Bad jokes always welcome!

*nods* And the exhaustion in those words. :(
Unfortunately intolerance and bias are often reinforced in families and it will be hard to get rid of as people are unwilling to reconsider their learned views :(
Gen Z to save us... The kids are alright. But they are VERY young and they shouldn't have to do EVERYTHING.

I have chosen not to give to local charities, good though they are, as no matter how bad things might be for people here, or in the UK, it is much worse to be a refugee, so apart from having given to UNICEF I have also been giving to Embrace the Middle East and Christian Aid. But I have also found it all too easy to just delete the emails from even these charities some days.

he is just so lovely. And puts his money where his mouth is.

*nods* It's endless, and those in refugee camps have even less than people here.

I hear ya. And it's impossible to help everyone.
