Update from The House of Plague, Day 92

Might have spent parts of the day reading up on how absolutely horrifically transphobic this country is (Vice: Inside the Great British TERF War) - I mean... I knew it was bad, but it's devastating to see it all laid out like that. Not to mention how the government's new plans are perfectly in line with this, and how She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named isn't an outlier.

(Although Mermaids posted a wonderful open letter to her (so MANY articles, but this is one of the best): An open letter to J.K. Rowling)

Speaking of the government staying true to form, there has also been this whole issue:

(Something to put it in perspective.)

But then Michael Sheen popped up on my Twitter TL and reminded me that there are literal angels out there, simply trying to help:

(In short, I'll sit down and count my blessings and donate what I can and lend my support to every campaign going and be a pest unto my MP. I have far more privilege/spoons than most people.)

So, today's art is 'The Rainbow' (1991) by Icelandic artist Ruri:

Lately, I get the feeling - and this is in my optimistic moments - that there are a lot of powerful people who know their time is running out, and they are in an awful hurry to sell everything for scrap while they still can.

On the other hand, there's this lovely piece of Shakespeare fanfic.

Although I suspect that things in THIS country will get worse before they get better.

I think that's pretty much a given the way it looks now. And like I said, that's still the optimistic view...

Oh my god that is AMAZING.

You might say it's a Slam Dunc. (Sorry.)

Interesting reading. I thought the part about waiting for the older generation to die to get rid of some of the bias and hatefulness very true. Unfortunately intolerance and bias are often reinforced in families and it will be hard to get rid of as people are unwilling to reconsider their learned views :(

Michael Sheen is another good man - it is easy to become very self-centred over the pandemic I think.

I have chosen not to give to local charities, good though they are, as no matter how bad things might be for people here, or in the UK, it is much worse to be a refugee, so apart from having given to UNICEF I have also been giving to Embrace the Middle East and Christian Aid. But I have also found it all too easy to just delete the emails from even these charities some days.
