Update from The House of Plague, Day 74
Although this first one is a corker. The article appears to be pay-walled, although I managed to read it on my phone. Basically it says that if Boris can't do his job without Cummings, then Boris isn't fit to lead:
“Boris Johnson isn’t fit to lead.” From the whining, lefty, remoaner Spectator. https://t.co/8cPSX0oloL

At 8pm tonight, these NHS doctors silently took a knee outside Downing Street with a sign saying “Doctors not Marytrs.” At least 250 deaths of NHS staff have been recorded so far. My heart hurts. pic.twitter.com/BP5RyrvqzC

ETA2: I legit thought this was about Cummings, but then realised it was Trump b/c of the tweet thing:
Another trick to appear smart in meetings is to show up late to a meeting you scheduled. It will make you feel very important to keep an entire country waiting on you while you send tweets

Emily Maitlis did NOT take the night of, but her replacement believed she had done so.
The BBC is doing for Johnson what Fox News does for Trump.

Re: What Emily Maitlis did...
I'm too tired for this.
Re: What Emily Maitlis did...
Anyway, the reason I came here now is this https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p08c2g3v
I'd just finished listening to the programme; this version is a few minutes shorter (no news break) but contains an awful lot of wonderful things; natural world, a piece of music written to incorporate birdsong by a listener and so on.
After it had finished; still thinking I might try and listen again before it became unavailable I discovered that not only did the programme have a podcast version it was virtually the entire live programme.
It's downloadable too, so you can listen to the whole thing, or pick out your favourite bits.

This entire year (and we're not halfway through yet) has been composed entirely off stress. :( I think we're all on edge.

Sounds wonderful thank you. Seems just the thing we all need. ♥

I agree with the sentiments of the doctors - but I do wish Hasan Patel had used better English - I hate the phrase 'take the knee' with a deep and abiding loathing, but comforted myself that it was an America phrase, like off of and gotten, as it comes from American Football.
Seeing it applied to people in the UK feels all wrong to start with, but when applied to a group of doctors it raises so many questions - whose knee? Did it require all of them to take one knee or did they carry out multiple patellectomies? Was it a complete or partial patellectomy? Was it perhaps a patellectomy performed on Patel? If so, Hasan or Priti?

Supporting it - some people have tried to claim that the only people who are upset with Doris are "whiny lefty remoaners" and Hugh's pointing out that even the Spectator (which is very right-wing) is criticising him.

As for Hasan Patel and his use of English, then 1) it's Twitter and 2) he's 17 and a very determined voice for social justice, and he gets an horrendous amount of abuse. (Unsure if you're familiar with him? Sorry if I'm telling you stuff you already know.) I'm sure his future education will see him learning to use his words wisely. :)

You're welcome. He is definitely a source of hope for the future.
But I still think doctors taking knees is just the wrong mental picture.
Absolutely fair enough. :)

Emily Maitlis definitely went up in my estimation.

And I don't know how the categories were chosen, so can't comment. Maybe they just liked having GOD as an option.
And yes, go Emily Maitlis. Whether it was right or wrong to do it, I'm glad she did.

Been neutral on her before, now I'm a fan.

Sidebar: I find it endlessly jarring that God is male in the book. I want to edit it.
