So interesting to read about the history of the hats to influence cultural habits! Also reminds me of those adaptations owners of blind animals have created, to keep them from walking into walls and objects.

And I want a hat like that too... Well I say that. We have SO MANY HATS. (You know how the Doctor likes hats? There are TWO people like that in our house. Impish Girl got a hat stand for Christmas the year she was 12, and she took it with her when she went to uni, that's how many hats she has.)

I love hats but I rarely find one that fits me! I currently have two winter ones (woolly) and two summer ones. The summer ones are both straw: a cheap one that I bought in Cyprus a few years ago, the other is beautifully smart so I wear it for barbeques, beach trips, any time that I will be out in the sun for more than an hour.

I tried to see if I could find a picture of the hatstand, but it's not immediately apparent.

However I ran downstairs and totted up the ones I could find (these being hats, like caps, straw hats, trilbys etc) and it came to 23. There is also a whole cabinet full of woolly hats/scarves/gloves.

Your approach sounds a lot saner!

(I love pretty scarves though.)
