Update from The House of Plague, Day 8 (quiet contemplation)
Feeling thoughtful today. It's a beautiful day - it's properly spring-like, the sun is shining, cherry trees blossoming, everything sprouting.
We are of course immensely privileged in that we have a house and a garden, that we are healthy and my job is secure. But I am with Martha right now. It feels strange that there is a catastrophe unfolding. Everything is peaceful.
It makes me think of this:

A pivotal moment in history - although not a moment really, more like an endless number of moments, every day bringing another change. What will the world look like at the end? Will we have implemented Universal Basic Income and gotten rid of billionaires? Will we use the breathing space we gave the environment to change things for good? Will the world be as devastated as after The Spanish Flu?
Just remember:
THE DOCTOR: The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. Hey. The good things don't always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don't necessarily spoil the good things or make them unimportant.
Vincent and the Doctor (S5, ep 10)
And here is something I want to add to your pile of good things, a few minutes of peace and beauty. The song is called 'Far away from other countries':

... Although I was married with two kids on 9/11, but yeah. (I remember it vividly.)

You're very welcome. I fell down a rabbit hole and it's lovely down here.

♥ That remains one of my favourite quotes from anything.
I'm glad you are all still holding in there okay!

I felt it was important to remind people of it.

I'm an introvert, so my natural instincts are to be a hermit. And the rest seem to be coping too!

Although I usually walk to work, and now I go for morning walks down in the nature reserve that's 5 minutes away, so it makes things feel less 'normal' and more like a holiday. (Which isn't a bad thing!)

And it was strange listening to the song, some parts I understood quite well, other parts not at all.

I felt like it was needed. <3

Mmm, I can imagine. I'm lucky, in that those who speak Faroese & Danish (the outliers on either side)) can generally get by in Norwegian & Swedish. It's interesting where the different languages have changed and altered.

The Guardian article was fascinating! I really really hope this shows that we don't NEED to drive everywhere, we don't NEED to go into the office every single day.

Like it says in The Bible According to Spike Milligan:
'And the Lord made it rain forty days and nights and the world was flooded, all except England where they had drought and a hosepipe band.'
The Guardian article was fascinating! I really really hope this shows that we don't NEED to drive everywhere, we don't NEED to go into the office every single day.
Wasn't it just? Change IS possible. The reason is awful, but maybe we can alter things going forward?
Martha. <3
Martha is the BEST.

I think we need it now.

And yes, they are all sort of on a scale? If we take Old Norse as one end, and Danish as the other (because Danish is... very far removed from Old Norse) it goes something like this:
Old Norse - Icelandic - Faroese - Norwegian/Swedish - Danish
They've all evolved from the same base, but some have changed more than others. :)

This is what I'm wondering too.
Thanks for your regular updates.

We can only hope and pray that something good will come out of it all...
