It does help not watching the news, and just reading the headlines...or blurbs. Sort of easier to take in print. Also, a bit like watching through ones fingers.

Yeah, part of VICE's problem is its a satire about Dick Cheney, but currently our government just is more satirical than anything produced ever.

They might be able to do a movie on all this in about twenty years after it's over, assuming we survive.

How long can the shut-down possibly go on...?

I'm wondering the same. My US passport expires next month, I need to get it renewed, also need to do my taxes and hopefully get a refund. (Although these problems pale in comparison to people who have gone without a paycheck for months and are working without pay. I have coworkers whose spouses are at either working without pay or home on furlough.) Both of those are handled by federal workers on furlough or working without pay. Also the city that I live in has over 400,000 federal workers. It's going to shut down the Federal Courts sometime soon -- they only have enough in reserve to make it to the end of the month.

Keep in mind though -- it's a bit different for us than most countries...since we're the United "States" of America...emphasis on "STATES". The State governments are doing fine. Fire, police, hospitals, infrastructure, state courts, fine.

Also, there's something they could do...if the Senate Republicans could get their proverbial heads out of their asses, which is override the President's veto. You need a majority of the House and Senate to override a veto. That's the only way out -- that doesn't cave to the 2 year old currently throwing a temper tantrum in the white house.
