He is veneer civility, which is what makes him so ugly in many ways. He is a sexist, hateful, entitled pig who thinks he should be on SCOTUS because of who he is, no matter what he does. That makes him more horrible than Trump. Trump is almost too stupid to get how awful he is. Kavanaugh gets it, but thinks the rules don't apply to him. That people are mere objects for his whims and if that alone doesn't make him unqualified, I don't know what does. :(
In their 'living in the early 1900s' kind of way, BK IS a decent person. Then again, their idea of decent hasn't changed much for the GOP in the last 100 years. Which is rather the problem. For the party of Lincoln, whereas they love President Lincoln's prestige and the idea of him, they don't much cotton to the progressive ideals that President brings forth. The open clownish buffoonery, aggressive ignorance and backwards love of all things white, male, Christian and rich will be their downfall.
That is a definite - and really, the root of all of Kavanaugh's problems.
His lack of honesty and integrity is appalling. He is unconsciously blase about that, too, which is shocking in itself. His sense of entitlement is ironic in a completely unfunny way, as that is the very thing that makes him unfit. It both starts with his lies and obfuscations, and ends with the same. It is the bits in the middle that make me squirm with discomfort the most, though. Like his very dishonesty and aggression are what makes him fit in his mind, when he wrote papers saying JUST THE OPPOSITE within the last decade.
This hearing has proven he was unfit in 2006 (blatant dishonesty) and now (open, brazen flaunting of that same dishonesty - and entitled aggression over it all). The fact he is a drinker is not disqualifying for a jurist, but his honesty, comportment, behavior on and off the bench IS disqualifying, especially as he is lying with a straight face ABOUT drinking and whether or not he has done so to excess in the past (though he has admitted this in one forum, whilst lying about it in another).
What are his true reactions to women not in his professional or familial sphere (because that is where this all is leading)? How did almost $200k in debt disappear overnight? He is paid well, but not that well. So many questions - and it all boils down to how he lives on and off the bench..and whether he is using his current bench inappropriately. An openly partisan, dishonest, entitled, drunken, abusive jurist on the highest court is the last thing this country needs right now.
Thank you, thank you for sharing that article! I saw it on my Twitter feed, but didn't get a chance to read until now.
Right now I'm just sick and angry over this laughable farce of a cloture vote. It was already sham enough, but then Collins' high-handed, scolding, bullshitty faux outrage on the Senate floor made me want to scream and bite things. I hope Maine hands her her ass in the next election. I'm not surprised by her vote, but her haughty couch-fainting over the slipshod process (that she found 'more than enough') was enough to put my stomach in knots and my anger at a boil.
I did...and it gives me no end of mean satisfaction (cause I'm sure it IS mean somewhere!) to see her future opponent is off to a good start! After all, she was only supposed to serve two terms, anyway, as she promised...6 terms LATER -
All of the GOP and their henchmen or wanna-be-henchmen are like this. Spoiled, snotty, ill-informed and entitled. They are surprised if you disagree with them. And of course, if you do, then you are wrong and don't worry...you will come to see their view or else. Just so hateful and nasty. At one time, this might (MIGHT) have been acceptable behavior, but I am just stunned at the lack of prudence, sense and decorum here...
