Random links post
So, I tend to collect links.
And since today is a Bank Holiday I figured I'd post them all today. However I can't be bothered to organise them much, so you get a somewhat random collection (many of them probably outdated, but hey ho).
Outside the cut, however, this absolute amazing thing by Lenny Henry:
(If you have not yet watched This is America, then WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?)
Fannish links:
Companions in Color
(Doctor Who article about the POC companions we have had so far)
For completely random reasons, I re-watched this video recently, and damn, it's still amazing:
We Didn't Start The Fire
11 surprising things we learned from Matt Smith's Desert Island Discs
100 Women: The artist redrawing 'sexist' comic book covers
Trailer for 'The Spy Who Dumped Me'
I saw the poster on a bus, and was so intrigued by two WOMEN as the main characters in a spy movie that I went home & found the trailer. It looks fun - and also why hasn't this been done before?
Also, if you have children that you need to entertain, you can't go wrong with this:
CBBC The Children’s Party at the Palace
(From the Queen's birthday. I taped it at the time, and the girls watched it A LOT when they were younger. Hurrah for youtube having it now.)
Politics, race, women, LGBTQ+ etc:
Trump Supporters
UK immigration authorities are also separating children from parents
(Not particularly surprised. This is Theresa May's 'hostile environment' after all.)
This tweet made me laugh out loud
The Health Condition Vulvodynia is Painful and Misunderstood
Why is there a measles outbreak in Europe?
Why we've established a day to celebrate vocational qualifications
Father James Martin: How parishes can welcome L.G.B.T. Catholics
Twitter unleashes fury over medical exam question – and for good reason
My grandmother's desperate choice (Outlawing abortion doesn't stop abortions happening. It stops women dying from them.)
Who is Gregory and Gregory?
This just made me laugh.
Windrush article
Transphobia finally eats itself.
Amid the torrent of fabrications, misleading interpretations, institutional dishonesty and outright lies that the anti-trans fanatics and their friends on the extreme right and in the right-wing media have put about no-one seems to have noticed how these dishonest bigots have effectively disproved their own case.
Twitter thread: Fuck the Tories
This moving video shows dads surprise their children in a rainbow bus heading for Pride
Thread unroll: Warning, rant ahead: I just got back from Planned Parenthood for the 1st time for a breast exam. Reason one being that they’re basically the only place that accepts my insurance and because they were the easiest place for walk-ins for that. Here’s my ridiculous experience.
If you were to write your white best friend a letter, what could that look like…?
Klinefelter's Syndrome isn't rare - but it is rarely diagnosed...
The organizer of the Charlottesville rally just got humiliated by his own father
“Get out of my room,” Jason Kessler’s father said to him during a live stream.
Thread by @colmmacc:"Yesterday the current Irish president, Michael D. Higgins, signaled that he's going to run for another term. He'll probably be unopposed...
Crazy Rich Asians isn’t about money, it’s about entitlement—and that’s a good thing
The emotional experience of watching Crazy Rich Asians.
The story of how the Conservatives crippled the country
The Doctor Doesn’t Listen to Her. But the Media Is Starting To.
Physicians have long dismissed or downplayed women's sexual- and reproductive-health concerns—but in 2018, stories about "health-care gaslighting" are consistently breaking through to the mainstream.
The Point of Electing Women Is to Elect Women
We are more than half of the country and should be more than half of the legislature
LGBTQ+ history
Long, but fascinating.
Revealed: Letter that stopped Jeremy Thorpe giving evidence
Here’s another Jeremy Thorpe scandal – its chilling legacy in law
And finally:
The great African regreening: millions of 'magical' new trees bring renewal
Tales from the far-flung Faroes
The people who live on remote rocks in the North Atlantic
And since today is a Bank Holiday I figured I'd post them all today. However I can't be bothered to organise them much, so you get a somewhat random collection (many of them probably outdated, but hey ho).

I'm sorry to hear this -- it would be nice to believe women get decent health care somewhere.
That Planned Parenthood story is sadly not surprising to me but I am glad it is getting attention.
