Pimp!!!!!!!

Everyone should go read [livejournal.com profile] speakr2customrs 'Cloak of Mist' which he has started posting in [livejournal.com profile] watchersdiaries. Here's the summary: The Isle of Man, 1014 AD. In the aftermath of the slaughter at the Battle of Clontarf, with the islanders mourning their dead and anxious for the missing, a new Slayer must face a horde of undead Vikings to free the island from a dreadful curse.

Captivating story, excellent characters and beautifully written. Go read! You can find Chapter 1 here!

ETA: You should also read Deid Canny, a short-ish standalone set in 1613 in the Baltic States during the ‘Ingermanland War’ between Sweden and Russia. A vampire story.

I don't usually comment on my husband's stories - as his beta-reader I know them well, but don't think you'll expect me to be unbiased! But this time I will make an exception - THIS IS PROBABLY THE BEST THING HE HAS EVER WRITTEN. Even if the only thing you usually read is Spuffy, or even Xangel slash, put a little time aside and go read this!

THIS IS PROBABLY THE BEST THING HE HAS EVER WRITTEN

Sadly I've not read that many of his stories, but this one is exceptional considering any fanfic I've read! :)

Also I'm very jealous of you - my husband likes Buffy well enough, but thinks that fandom - and fanfiction in particular - is a sad waste of time. He keeps saying that I should write something proper. But I might point him in the direction of this story to make him change his mind just a bit...

Actually in our house I'm the one to sometimes suggest writing 'something proper'. He did write a novel once, but didn't get anywhere getting it published, and I think this is actually more original anyway - I accept this as 'something proper'! I do enjoy the fanfic as well - honestly!

I can perfectly well understand wishing for 'something proper' - especially since your husband is so talented. If he could continue the story of Bahey, it would make a fine novel! I'd buy it!

My own writing is a continual source of surprise. I'd love to write something original, it's just a question of inspiration.
