See that was a draw, for me. Sit back, wallow in the bromance and the man!pain. Except it was like... hardly there at all. Figured as much ; )
I often wonder what the people who read Bond/Q slash think Skyfall was about . . .
She (Maria) isn't in it MUCH, but functions as the hyper competent person who organises stuff, where the Cap & Natasha just sort of blunder about. : (
I don't have Hulu. :( No, that's American-only . . . But if it shows up on your streaming service of choice, just watch it. Make the family watch it too. It's not deep, but it's just such a satisfying little gem of a television show. It's fun and funny and action-y and everybody looks gorgeous and Peggy Carter is a delightfully sparkly and unstereotyped ENTJ BAMF-ing her way through everything and slyly using everybody's sexism to her advantage. It just has that fun, summer movie, casual feel that is so enjoyable in some of the Marvel movies but it's about PEGGY CARTER instead of broody men with underdeveloped backstories. Also Howard Stark's butler is a major character (also 100% delightful) and his name is Jarvis. Because of course. And in conclusion : PEEEGGGGGGYYYYYYY!!!!!!!
See that sounds quite good. Here it was a little bit Bond villain. Actually the whole thing was very Bond-y to be honest, with Natasha as the kick-ass Bond girl (except without the sexual tension). Family is a major theme on SHIELD. And belonging and institutional power and the intersection of all those things, so the villains tend to speak to those same ideas. So a lot of the Hydra storylines are superficially about them doing something evil and really about the struggles of living up to Daddy's expectations and whether you want to take on the spot that's been carved out for you, etc.
I don't object to a little Bond-y ness, but it is always hard to take seriously. I can easily see how Hydra would come over like that in a two hour format.
And with the Cap as Bond. (Doing his best Faith-in-Buffy's-body 'Because it's WRONG' impression.) I'm kinda laughing at the idea of James Bond with a Cap-style moral purity.
