there's a Jewish saying, from the Talmud, that if you save one life it is as if you have saved the whole world. That sort of goes hand in hand with this, with Eleven's 'I've never met anyone unimportant', and with Twelve's 'they're never small to me' Yes, lovely. I'm sure I have heard that saying, but would never have been able to say where it's from. Although it goes back to Nine and Father's Day:
DOCTOR: Rose, there's a man alive in the world who wasn't alive before. An ordinary man. That's the most important thing in creation. The whole world's different because he's alive.
And also Eleven formulates it pretty specifically in Time of the Doctor:
DOCTOR: Every life I save is a victory. Every single one.
