Being hopeful

It's strange, but in my head, the next Doctor is female. Like, that's the default. I have to remind myself that the BBC will probably 'play it safe' and go for yet another straight, white male. Possibly a POC if they're feeling adventurous (nothing against that btw. A POC Doctor would be GREAT), but it'd just be so brilliant if we got a female Doctor. Partly because of the sheer number of comments I've seen, saying 'I'm not sexist, but the Doctor should be male.' Usually followed by 'the show wouldn't work with a woman'.
(If anyone wants to argue with me, I tagged a few posts on Tumblr re why a female Doctor would be good - especially for boys: #female doctor. Please read those first. If your opinion is just a personal preference, well, no need to argue with me.)
Everyone else - those are very good posts, you should read them! :)
More than that though, let me quote Moffat on the subject:
Moffat: "I don’t know why I’m the one who gets the grief for this. I’m the one who put the dialogue into the show to say it can happen. Do you know how it will happen? It will not happen that somebody sits down and says “we must turn the Doctor into a woman”. That is not how you cast the Doctor. A person will pop into the showrunner’s head and they’ll think: “Oh, my God, what if it was that person?” And when that person is a woman, that’s the day it will happen."
And the thing is, the person people are excited about is:

And dammit, I am too. Like, stupidly so. She'd be a FANTASTIC Doctor.
Apparently she is currently filing for the new Han Solo movie, but seriously. Phoebe Waller-Bridge. (AND she was on Braodchurch!) My beloved Fleabag. (Also it'd be hilarious if she was cast. Remember Capaldi and Malcolm Tucker and All The Swearing? Phoebe is worse in Fleabag. *g*) Seriously though, she is funny, whimsical and a fantastic actress. Fleabag is a master class in how to portray someone coping with grief by being outrageous/pretending things are fine.
So there. I'll probably be disappointed.
But hey ho. We can only hope...

Time for TV to stand up and be counted against the poisonous gamergaters and their ilk.

*looks her up* Oh god, she's younger than me . . . Though I guess she would be older than MS was when he got the role.

YOU SAID IT!

It's VERY filthy though. And hilarious. And heartbreaking.
(I did wonder that scenes like this might make them somewhat reluctant to hire her... Like, the excited 8 year old googling and coming across THAT!) (I love it though. Like, stupidly so.)

The thing about playing it safe...
(Anonymous) 2017-07-16 01:19 pm (UTC)(link)Because, I mean, “let’s cast a cast a pretty, young bloke again to keep the fandom”.
Okay, Matt looked like a student when he was cast, he probably still needed to show his I.D. to buy a drink. Capaldi’s almost sixty now, I’ll give you that. Some people whined; people are idiots.
But besides that, the age factor (or even with it, some people are like wine and get better, honestly):
In what universe is Matt Smith considered more attractive than Peter Capaldi? Scratch that, in what universe is Matt and his weird face considered conventionally handsome?
Don’t get me wrong, the man is talented, insanely adorable, and can be incredibly charming. But no, he would never be described as “traditionally attractive” or “sexy”. (I’d argue that most actors who played the Doctor generally wouldn’t be, but still). You look at him and you go “Oh my God, he’s an alien all right”.
Then again, this comes from the guy who considers Aidan Gillen and Michelle Gomez the peak of human evolution, attractiveness, and achievement in general. I have weird taste, issues, I’m not the norm and have very good reasons that prevent me from being so, I accept that. But still, am I wrong?
So while I understand the BBC’s dilemma, it still puzzles me on a personal level.
I’m sure they’ll choose the right actor for the part, we’ve never been disappointed before. I just hope it’s not for the wrong (or stupid) reasons.
Then again, we may be judging them too harshly. We don’t have copyright on “absence of shallowness”. I mean, Moffat has gone on record that he initially wanted an older actor and then our Baby Giraffe came in and stole the show.
Can we all agree though, irrespective of age, race, religion, species, gender, sexual preference, etc that Peter has the best hair on the planet and that it’s so FLUFFY we’re gonna die?

Is she the first blond/blonde since Five?

I read this hours ago, and it cheered me muchly, and I believe you are 100% right.

Moffat paved the way so very very perfectly. Piece by tiny piece.
Re: The thing about playing it safe...
Well. Benedict Cumberbatch isn't conventionally handsome either. And he has rabid fans. And um, Eleven. Well, to explain, I could probably point out that this gif is usually accompanied by the words: 'That awkward moment when you wish you were a cupboard door'

The term is FLOOFY. I believe it's a technical term.

Re: The thing about playing it safe...
(Anonymous) 2017-07-16 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)LOL. Yes, this gif is strangely sexy.
No, no, I understand. And I always say that it’s better to be weirdly charming/attractive than pretty, because you can still be that when you’re 80. And this holds true for both gentlemen, I think.
Hey, I cosplay as both Eleven and Sherlock, and I certainly don’t mind the squeeing, the requests for selfies, and the eventual likes. I’d dress like that every day if I had the time.
(I found this great quote today, btw: “The Doctor didn’t spend a month living among otters. He just found Benedict’s house, and he was too polite to ask him to leave”).
But I mean, the difference is this: my little sister became a Whovian recently (ONE OF US, ONE OF US).
Reaction to Tennant: Generally speaking, that lucky fangirl who was like “HAIR-RUFFLE!!!”
Reaction to Matt (literally): “Oh my God, he is so adorable! Why is he so adorable? I don’t know why, but he is!!!”
(It’s great, I now have Live DW Reactions).
The term is FLOOFY. I believe it's a technical term.
YES. YES IT IS. <3 <3 <3
Seriously, we’ll be assigning him to people with heart decease next, like dogs and kittens.
