It's strange, but in my head, the next Doctor is female. Like, that's the default. I have to remind myself that the BBC will probably 'play it safe' and go for yet another straight, white male. Possibly a POC if they're feeling adventurous (nothing against that btw. A POC Doctor would be GREAT), but it'd just be so brilliant if we got a female Doctor. Partly because of the sheer number of comments I've seen, saying 'I'm not sexist, but the Doctor should be male.' Usually followed by 'the show wouldn't work with a woman'.

(If anyone wants to argue with me, I tagged a few posts on Tumblr re why a female Doctor would be good - especially for boys: #female doctor. Please read those first. If your opinion is just a personal preference, well, no need to argue with me.)

Everyone else - those are very good posts, you should read them! :)

More than that though, let me quote Moffat on the subject:
Moffat: "I don’t know why I’m the one who gets the grief for this. I’m the one who put the dialogue into the show to say it can happen. Do you know how it will happen? It will not happen that somebody sits down and says “we must turn the Doctor into a woman”. That is not how you cast the Doctor. A person will pop into the showrunner’s head and they’ll think: “Oh, my God, what if it was that person?” And when that person is a woman, that’s the day it will happen."

And the thing is, the person people are excited about is:

And dammit, I am too. Like, stupidly so. She'd be a FANTASTIC Doctor.

Apparently she is currently filing for the new Han Solo movie, but seriously. Phoebe Waller-Bridge. (AND she was on Braodchurch!) My beloved Fleabag. (Also it'd be hilarious if she was cast. Remember Capaldi and Malcolm Tucker and All The Swearing? Phoebe is worse in Fleabag. *g*) Seriously though, she is funny, whimsical and a fantastic actress. Fleabag is a master class in how to portray someone coping with grief by being outrageous/pretending things are fine.

So there. I'll probably be disappointed.

But hey ho. We can only hope...

I have no idea who it's going to be, but am absolutely, utterly, 100% confident it's not going to be another white dude. It's just not. :-) (and given how the Capaldi rumours all turned out to be true last time, I would not be AT ALL surprised if it was Phoebe WB ! Which would be excellent for many reasons, not least because then maybe more people would start spelling my name right :-P)

People are also suggesting Jodie Whittaker but I don't see it tbh? Phoebe Waller-Bridge would make sense tho

It's not going to be Nina Sosanya, but hey I'm operatinf at a very low level of hope and expectation anyway. Even that though would leave me disappointed if The Doctor is not a woman this time.

Time for TV to stand up and be counted against the poisonous gamergaters and their ilk.

I'd never heard of PWB, though I feel like that gif is an audition in itself.

*looks her up* Oh god, she's younger than me . . . Though I guess she would be older than MS was when he got the role.
