General election ends in a hung Parliament

The Tories had a 17 point lead at the start of April! They expected a landslide...

ETA: Context for those haven't been following (and why would you?). The PM decided to call a snap election (even though she'd said she wouldn't) in order to increase her mandate before the Brexit talks.

Result: She lost the mandate.

The Tories are still the largest party, but they don't have a majority and might form a coalition with the DUP (The Democratic Unionist Party - Northern Ireland). Giving them a majority of... two?

ETA: Things you may have missed... . F.ex. Theresa May stood (amongst others) against a bloke called Lord Buckethead. Sometimes I love British politics. :)

My vote here actually seems to have made a difference; stopping at least one Tory gain.

Palestinian woman won one of Oxford's seats for the Lib Dems from the Tories too.

Sikh woman turned a marginal Labour seat in Birmingham into one with a massive majority.

Seat has had a female MP since 1953 apparently.

Yeah the [fucking] DUP is offering an unholy alliance in exchange for a soft border. Good luck lads

edit// even if they manage to form a working coalition with the DUP [lol], the DUP won't be able to do shit for them -- the ''English votes for English laws'' legislation, that the Tories themselves enacted, and that nobody wanted except them -- kneecaps everyone else in the Union.

For 'tis the sport to have the engineer

Before the last election the SNP had 11 seats.

If not for the last election both the SNP and the Tories would have had a triumph north of the border. I think the SNP are pretty much where they expected to bein seat terms; just think they didn't expect to lose them where they have - all but wiped out in what were their heartland territories; now reclaimed by the Tories they took them from.

Except here (who knew that voting could really make a difference?)

There's a May meme about, something about those pesky kids. One of them, Mhairi Black, is getting ready to 'nut the DUP' I reckon.

Well, it is chaotic, but certainly chaotic good, isn't it? The Tories are losing their grip on power. A majority of 1 vote (if you count out the speaker), with a rather dubious party, that sounds neither strong nor stable.

The DUP sounds hideous but the best news I heard was the percentage of young voters who turned out after all. Despite being across the pond I'm relieved to hear the results, though it's too bad the Tories aren't completely out of power and Brexit continues to seem inevitable.

And we did hear about Lord Buckethead and the Silly Party! I was also glad to hear they only got token votes though.
