Article I have been meaning to share for a while (might have shared it before, but it's worth reading twice). American, but the sentiment is universal:

Stakes is High
Money quote:
That’s what politics is — the way we distribute pain. It’s not a sport or a fraternity or a game. It’s how we determine who gets medication and who dies young, who learns in a class of twenty kids and who learns in a class of thirty, whose school has a counselor that’s trained to look for signs of sexual abuse and who doesn’t.

And, just to add a more local, current spin (i.e. the NHS):

Facebook post re. 'Virgin Care'.

I will never understand the hostility so many people have towards poor people having health care. I just can't grok what kind of mindset that takes. It's not like anyone even benefits from it.

But yeah - that doesn't get the media focus and the outrage of the week the way other issues do. It's almost like it's not news, or something.

Personally I hated that the protests in London and elsewhere when all this awful downsizing of the NHS started at the beginning of the Tory 'rule' were not reported by the news anywhere other than Twitter. It was really appalling that there was nothing done regarding the petitions that so many people signed. As far as the Tories are so out of touch of what people actually NEED because they all come from public school systems and money FFS.

Sorry - this always gets me so angry....!!

It's sad and horrible and if you don't have private healthcare as a perk with your job, or the money to pay, you are really stuck in some boroughs. It's heartbreaking.

Yeah, of course they'd try this in Wiltshire, one of their strongholds, the fuckers. Excuse my language.

I grew up in Wiltshire and it always stays Tory, even in 1997. Drove me batty.
