Classy...
It was Saturday yesterday and there was no new Class... Am not sure what I'll do if it doesn't get a second season. It's easily been the best thing about 2016 - like, it seems so long since I've been genuinely excited about a show. Since I've had proper, new, intricate, fascinating characters and stories to delve into, with a 'verse teeming with possibilities, with a ton of layers. Not to mention a shiny new OTP... And it's so well written! (It was the best birthday present ever.)
I might have spent time I didn't spend on Christmas preparations making icons... (Christmas cards are done though! Thank goodness.)
The official site has a ton of good stuff (such a million behind-the-scenes videos), but my favourite so far might be Class Fan Art - especially the banner made by seventhdemigod. Basically perfect. <3 (Spoilers for ep 4 I suppose, if you want to be pedantic.)
Also I don't think I've ever re-watched a show as much as I am this one - of course I always re-watched to write meta, but with Class I have to keep telling myself to remember to take notes, because I just want to watch, and catch all the little details and wallow in the characters. ♥
Anyway, since my reviews take time (and I am strict with spoilers!), I figured people might want to talk to me about the episodes I've not gotten to yet (to yell or to cry or to just flail) - if so, this is your post. :)

And yeah, they definitely make use of the fact that it isn't Doctor Who... But I didn't find it gratuitous (which Torchwood often was, bless it) - like, they had set up the Arn, and then they quite simply took that seriously; it was a horrible punishment, and getting rid of it was genuinely dangerous, horrific and almost killed her.
When I write up my thoughts properly, there'll be a lot about what justice means, and how to view Charlie through the lens of his people.
ETA: There's body horror throughout tho. April's heart, Ram's leg...

There's body horror throughout tho. April's heart, Ram's leg...
That's true but the kids' body horror was only shown briefly. April's heart, we see the effects in her eyes but we don't see the heart itself turning black and shrivelling. With Quill, we see the actual operation taking place, we see what happens to her eye and the aftermath.

It had to be earned. Which is was. (I both shudder and am sad... What an episode.)

Very true. And it's a nice distinction, which I hadn't thought of before. Thank you!

I can't say flower crowns were my first choice, but I wasn't finding a lot of options . . . There is no way to search for this show. Do they not think about these things when they choose names? Class! Might as well name it 'The' for all the good that does.
Also Ram probably needs a flower crown. It's no Hannibal, but boy has got the trauma level going.

Heh. Can't ague with that...

THIS. Although try adding BBC3, that does help a little.

You know, I wondered about Hannibal and the flower crowns. Like - why? What's the significance?
Anyway - if there's anything you want, I'm happy to make it! :)

I've been doing 'BBC Class', so I'll try that as well. I have the same problem with The Good Place. Getting everybody's Tumblr posts about how they're 'not in a good place right now' when you're looking for cute gif sets is not what I come to fandom for.
You know, I wondered about Hannibal and the flower crowns. Like - why? What's the significance?
Because whimsey, basically. I do not think the flower crown meme originated with Hannibal, but it is the fandom that most thoroughly made it their own. The things is, Hannibal is so dark, and so cerebral and so gruesome and so arty and so srs bsnss that a lot of the fan production around the show is, deliberately and by necessity, as far in the opposite direction as possible. So flower crowns were, like, the perfect symbol to take the edge off the show. And I think it helped that the people who made the show completely embraced it. There are Funco Pop figurines of Hannibal characters with flower crowns. And when they brought in the actor they had play the Red Dragon in season three, he went to his first fan event, and the other actors basically plopped a flower crown on his head, and he literally told everyone 'I have been told I have to wear this. I don't understand why.' Which went over very well with the room.
Here is an informative article. And Fandom lore claims that this may be the very first Hannibal flower crown meme. In which precious cinnamon roll and ever-suffering INFJ with sensitive hair Will Graham hates everything. Expect puppies.
Some Day you shall watch Hannibal. And then we shall talk. It will be glorious. Oh yes.
Anyway - if there's anything you want, I'm happy to make it! :)
I think I rather fancy something with Quill and Charlie, if you're inspired. Possibly James Bonding it. That's always what I'm looking for in icons and never finding enough of: multiple people. I thought briefly about making some, but I don't care that much.

LOL!

That's just fabulous. One day I shall watch it, promise. Although we're still trying to finish Bojack and Stranger Things, and Darcy watched the first episode of the new Dirk Gently and decided it was The Best Thing Ever. Like. Insane. But made perfect sense. The girls want to watch it too, so we shall have to all sit down one night (MAYBE TONIGHT) and start watching. I shall let you know. It might be a Ne thing.

Neat! And reminds me that last week we had a parcel delivered on reception containing a stag/reindeer head with detachable antlers. With no name. Thankfully the owner eventually turned up to claim it.

I shall glance at Netflix tonight and see if it's there. Oh and ITV Player and Channel 4 etc. Not sure where it aired.

The James Bonding is great. Although finding good caps is a bitch. This was as close as I'd gotten. (Before seeing this comment.) I don't like it, so I never uploaded it, and then ~life~ took over again and I never got any further.

Although all it says on the website re. America is that 'it's coming in 2017'...

Although, NGL, kinda pissed they pulled the 'LOL cute new headteacher, LOL JK' thing on us like 'STOP KILLING POOKIE GOD DAMMIT, JUST STOP IT'
*headdesk*
I am annoyed tbh, like... we have a few too many kids to adults with what happened in the finale and it's like '... The ratio is fucked now, thanks dudes...'

And you were so 'Eh, it might grow on me' at the beginning. Thank you for letting me flail you into it. <3

As you say - yo never know. Although she looked pretty dead. And I don't think this show kills people just for the shock value.

Well it *is* YA. I'm sure they have plans.

Ugh. I hope they pull a 'Joke, we have a factory of these women' or smth, cause... yeah. The dead-Pookie factor is just 'Yuuurgh' making by now cause they KEEP doing it when she's in anything and it's like 'Can't she just live? Just once?'
I know but before it was like 3/4 adults, 6 kids and it's just... off kilter now? Like, April's mum is basically it for adults besides Quill... as far as we know anyways.

THIS IS WHY I WRITE!! <333

I don't recall seeing her in anything else, so I am not scarred. I'm sad they killed her, cause awesome female characters are always a good thing, but then Quill/Ames was (sadly) not likely to happen...

Well it IS a YA show. However, we might now see Ram's mother. And Tanya has a grandmother. And dear god I would give anything for a Matteusz-centric episode where we meet HIS family.
Maybe next season. :)

Would have been nice to have Ames messing with her tho, for the sheer snarly gorgeousness we'd have had from Quill. *sigh* Ah well, let's hope Pookie'll pick a comedy one time.
I'd love Grams and Mum for Tanya and Ram... does make the stakes higher for those two too. I'd love to see Matteusz's family at least evolve a little/be less harsh even if they still don't exactly like his sexuality... or something on that at least.
Let's hope so.

S1 is such a tight series, but hopefully in S2 they'll be able to expand, since they've done all the set-up. :)

Yep, we know the characters now so S2 can delve deeper I hope.

... In other (random) news... I think I just sold my stageplay... gonna be begging for Pookie now... since then I can watch her be awesome in rehearsals.

Otherwise, I really liked that they treated the ultimate outcome (kill all the Shadowkin) as a morally thorny choice. Charlie has admitted that he really wanted to kill them (and I think I understand now why "intent is the same as action" for a Rhodian), and yet he knows it's a terrible thing to do. On the other hand, a strong argument could be made that it was self defense. The Shadowkin remind me of some of the enemies in Stargate, where there's really no diplomacy you can offer. It's a kill them before they kill you scenario.
I really liked that Tanya turned her grief into action, going to Miss Quill for help learning how to fight, and the connection between them by the end. And good heavens, I hope they get a second season.

I know just what you mean! I've rarely watched something where it took me so long to try to get my thoughts together and actually have some sort of opinion.
but the white lady survived. I don't think I'm okay with that on multiple levels.
Well, the white girl did not... (And yeah, is it worse to kill a disabled character than a POC?) But then again, I don't think the story would have worked if April's mother had been killed - April's choice would have been coming from a different place.

This is the best post I've seen on the episode/subject, and also one that addresses the issue of privilege! (It manages to put the whole thing in perspective in just a few paragraphs, it's great.)

*nods a lot* And I think this is one reason Matteusz' argument is so important. (See icon.)

Omg this. SO many great female characters, talking about anything and everything except men.
And good heavens, I hope they get a second season.
IKR? And I know you'll be crazy busy now, but when you get settled, it's massively rewarding to re-watch. (When you know where it's going & can track the arcs, it works even more beautifully.)

I guess my issue with killing Tanya's mother, in particular, was whether it was truly necessary. I like that she was motivated to go to Quill, and as I said, that was one of my favorite bits, but it leaves her an orphan. And really, hasn't poor Ram suffered enough at this point? His girlfriend, his leg, now his dad and his girlfriend? Good heavens.
I did really like that tumblr post, and I think it does sum it up nicely. This show really does face some complicated questions of morality much better than many other shows that raise the questions but don't wrestle with them.

As unexpected twists go, it's quite something. And yeah, I have no idea what they might do.

I hope S2 is all butterflies and rainbows. (Actually, I expect it'll be all meta. But they have to do something about Tanya & Ram in particular. They need Good Things Only.)

Most shows just find a loophole - this didn't. And I respect that very much. The Cabinet was obviously Chekov's Gun, but even so - these things tend to drag on for seasons (ditto the arn in Quill's head), so to see them tackle it all upfront was great.
