How to stay sane...
Stay away from the internet/news.
As you may have guessed I had Monday/Tuesday off work (co-incidence, I booked the days off ages ago to use up my annual leave), but I was back today & busy, so am feeling much better!
So to continue avoiding ~news, I thought I'd talk about Classic Who?
Within the last half year I've watched Inferno (with thanks to
kerkevik_2014), City of Death (with thanks to
enevarim), and (yesterday!) Tomb of the Cybermen (with thanks to our old parish priest who was giving away books/DVDs before he left last year (well, you could donate whatever you wanted).
However, although I enjoyed them all, my mind is blank. I'm useless at doing ordinary 'reviews', which is why I hardly ever write about whatever regular TV I might be watching. I'm sort of meta-or-nothing.
So talk to me? Do you love/hate/feel indifferent towards these episodes? Do they prove that Two/Three/Four is the best Doctor ever?

Not that I don't love all the rest! ;)

like my icons don't give THAT away, but I'm always afraid to say so. The Ten!Lovers might lynch me. Yes, I'm a fraidy cat, lol!!They are awesome! Top is Eleven (yeah, he always will be), closely followed by Eight, Seven and Four. Special love for Six because...well...he's Six!
*Laughs*

But Eleventy is MY Doctor, and I would like to see anyone try to tell me to change 'MY' Doctor... >:)

Eleven, then.. Seven, and somewhere off the scale because he doesn't fit, Ten. And Six (although I've never seen an episode) just because Colin Baker is awesome & people don't give Six enough love.

Hee!! Never will...just got quiet about it, because some folks are unreasonable and nasty (not what the Doctor would love to see at all!!) and then before you know it internets implode...ugh. So I write for him, have five thousand icons, most of my wallpapers are of Eleventy and he is THE Doctor in my house. But then I fel guilty over Twelve and Three and well...so I say they are ALL my Doctor. But I definitely have my favs.
And yeah, Colin Baker is MARVELOUS and should have all the Love!

Perfectly valid!
Loved Ten, but he never really did it for me. *Ducks behind ElJay*
If you like Tragic Heroes, he's perfect. If you're not so keen... He may not be all that. Different strokes.
But then I fel guilty over Twelve and Three and well...so I say they are ALL my Doctor. But I definitely have my favs.
LOL. And anyway, who can argue over subjective emotions???
And yeah, Colin Baker is MARVELOUS and should have all the Love!

DOCTOR: Have you ever seen Mary Poppins?
KAZRAN: No.
DOCTOR: Good. Because that comparison would've been rubbish. Fish in the fog. Fish in the clouds. How do people ever get bored? How did boredom even get invented?

I found the show on our local public tv station and fell in love; one of my coworkers at the time had been a giant Tom Baker fan and had knit her own K-9, so I've seen all of his eps but never warmed to him as I did to Peter Davison. I even bought the books. :) And what did I see last week while binge watching Miranda? Peter Davison as her old French teacher! Oh, be still my heart....
And may I say the only thing that's keeping me upright as I stay on top of Brexit is Tom Ellis.

It's been forever!!
"my" classic Doctor was #5 so I only have a passing knowledge of 1-4.
I haven't seen any Five, but I think I'd like him. Four is mad, but Five sounds such an earnest sweetheart. <3

Good old British TV! :)

He's been on Doctor Who too!!! :D

Four, Nine, Ten and Twelve make me palm-sweaty nervous; if our couch was in front of the TV I'd be hiding behind it not for fear of the monsters, but for fear of them.
I forgot that Ellis was Martha Jones' fiancé for five minutes. Might be time to dig that episode out of my 9 & 10 disks....

And that's what matters!!! I haven't seen any Five, but I'm predisposed to liking him. <3

Interesting! For different reasons I presume? (PLEASE GO IN LOTS OF DETAIL!!)

It's the first place I ever saw him, so I always associate him with that...

Five is actually really sarcastic, but he smiles so nicely people tend to get misled. He is, however, really good at putting up with companions who want to kill him, which some later Doctors would have been crap at.
In answer to your questions, those are all good eps, although I am increasingly turned off by the unfortunate racist pseudo-science in Tomb of the Cybermen, but Two is always very awesome. My favourite Two eps are probably things that are missing that have Polly and Ben, Web of Fear, Enemy of the World (which is much better about not being racist), The Mind Robber, The Invasion, and The War Games. (Everyone says that last one is too long, but they are wrong. There are far more ploddy and dull four parters out there. War Games is excellent and then hangs around a bit because they know we can't bear to part with the adorableness of Jamie-Zoe-Two and then leaps into game-changing revelations and HEARTBREAK FOREVER.
City of Death is the wittiest and has Julian Glover. I hope you had fun with it and weren't disappointed because of high expectations!
However, out of those three, my favourite is Inferno. I have a huge love for S7 (the proper season 7, not the new one, although I like that one more than most people seem to), and Inferno is my favourite bit of S7. "So free will is not an illusion after all." And the whole world ends this time. But then I am one of the few people who maintain that Ambassadors of Death isn't boring, so what do I know? (And I ship Brig/Liz a lot, because they are awesome. There was one time I kept writing S7 fic that didn't bother having the Doctor in. I'm still slightly annoyed that he turned up in Spearhead in Space, just when the Brig and Liz were being Mulder and Scully 20 years early.) Later UNIT stuff is a lot of fun, but S7 is its own thing, and very satisfying to watch.

Sounds like me! >:) And then people get confused by my sense of humour.

I deliberately tried to switch off that part of my brain. Like, THIS IS REALLY OLD! *twitch*

If I come across it, I shall certainly watch it!

I think I had heard about half the dialogue already in quotes, so it was more a case of putting it in context...

See I heard a lot of differing opinions, but (apart from being slow in the way Classic Who always is, because the structure was so different), I rather liked it, yes. :)

Duly noted.

I have to do that a lot lately, but for some reason I found that worse than most of the inevitable stereotypes and blackface - I think because of the whole thing with Kit Pedler being a scientist and that being such an unpleasant bit of 60s pseudo-science that was seen as being crap and racist at the time, let alone later, whereas bad as the other stuff was it was often parodying films or teh sheer desperation of production. But, yeah, there's too much good stuff in Tomb to let that spoil things like Two and Victoria's wonderful conversation in the middle - and Two being at his most devious. But Kit Pedler and Gerry Davis efforts do tend to be a bit worse on the whole racism/sexism thing than other 60s DW writers - although certainly no worse than most 60s SF, my goodness...

I have so much to say about Inferno - it's by far the most meta THree ep, so I love it above all other Three eps - but I have no spoons or coherent thoughts, so I'll just say again that I love it!
Some people find S7 hard to take because of the more serious atmosphere and the three seven-parters. For some reason I don't mind the seven parters here. I think there's just this particular vibe of three competent people saving the world from aliens and having ethical dilemmas that they disagree about it & it's just a great vibe to have in DW for a change. The rest of Pertwee is a lot of fun - people don't talk about the UNIT family for nothing and Katy Manning's Jo is adorable and far, far more useful than people claim, but with the family vibe inevitably comes a little more cosiness - the Brig and the Doctor argue for the lols, not because they disagree over matters of genocide. Liz is brilliant and I also like what it says about the Brig that, told to find the best all rounder in the country for his scientific advisor, he chooses Liz Shaw. So, I have S7 feelings, which is odd, because mostly I love the quirkiness and unexpected DW of the 60s and 80s where you don't know what on earth sort of story you might get next time, instead of being pretty sure there'll be an alien invasion again!

It's a low bar. But what can you do...

Also a valid response! <3

*nods* I love competent people.

LOL. I'm still very much feeling my way through Classic Who through the process of watching what I have access to. Which is random.

Anyway, if you would like that, then PM me your address and a list of stories you'd be most interested in seeing - or if you just want me to send some I like, let me know which ones you've seen. I do have some gaps in 1-4 (especially in Three and Two) but it's a complete collection from 5-7 & I should be able to send you from two-six serials (depending on stamps, envelopes and whether any of them are on two discs or not.) I have found DW episodes that were a bit dull or not so much my favourites - but none that weren't at least a bit delightful, because that's DW and all the Doctors are wonderful. So if you'd like that, don't hesitate to PM me - I'm entirely serious and love to spread the Classic Who love and have no one round here who wouldn't faint with horror if I tried! ;-)
PS. I'm a repressed librarian - I exist to lend!

And I might just take you up on that. Hmmmm. I shall go away and have a think, although my first thought it 'YAY I CAN WATCH ALL OF SEVEN!!' (I wrote an essay on Season 25, and adored Seven, even from watching it online in rather crappy condition).
Do you have any recommendations? I guess I really ought to make a list of what I've watched...
So I think I'll get back to you once I'm awake! But thank you. :D

And have your think & either send some specific requests - or a list of what you've seen & let me choose some favourites if you'd rather! Whatever you'd prefer is fine by me. If you want to take a run of a few eps in order, or meet as many new-to-you companions and Doctors as you want, or request some fan favourites or fan turkeys just to see - whatever!
As I said, I don't have a complete collection, but the gaps are relatively few, and probably mostly in Three (and One - I'm not quite sure why that is, because I love One a lot. I think I just had the videos back in the day and didn't replace some of them as quickly, I'm not sure).

OTOH, I can be equally vocal on behalf of Two, Five and Six, as well as Ten and Twelve. (Matt's a sweetie, but doesn't quite cut it for me. Sorry.)

... I hadn't thought of it that way. And I guess compared to the rest of Dr Who it's true! :)

Well, it'd be boring if we were all the same. (Although obviously you are wrong. *g*)

It's one of the classic episodes for a reason. It's interesting, because I recognised several bits of dialogue, and it's lovely to put them in context. Also stylistically it's very neat. Loved the actual tombs themselves.
I don't like Cybermen very much, but curiously I really enjoyed them in this one. It was gripping, and rhe added touch of everything being an archaeological exploration just made it even more interesting for me!
I think it might be because of how it was more a 'waking something terrible from slumber' rather than 'being attacked by big army'?

I can never quite point at a favourite Doctor, but as I said—awesomeness. I have a particular fondness for Inferno though, and it has Liz ♥

I been waiting for you, considering your own amazing viewing...
Pssst—if you want free classics and don't mind watching online, Dailymotion is the best thing ever.
And I know of Daily Motion (it's how I watched Season 25 some years ago), but my computer desperately needs updating, so watching online is... not the best. Plus I'd be branded even more anti-social than I already am.
I can never quite point at a favourite Doctor
It's the strangest thing. I'm not even sure 'favourite' is the right word. I just know that Eleven is 'my' Doctor. And it doesn't mean that I dislike Twelve in any way shape of form, but Eleven just hits a button none of the others do. However, the more the merrier!
but as I said—awesomeness. I have a particular fondness for Inferno though, and it has Liz ♥

Ahhh. I get you, Dailymotion usually works very smoothly on a computer that… runs smoothly in the first place, but on my old computer too, it was just very glitching. And of course sharing is the best way :)
I feel the same but I know exactly why in my case—shipping involves extra obsessing for me, so I just kind of see Eleven through River's eyes? XD Though Twelve got a big upgrade after the Christmas special too ;)
Oh, and I'm watching Torchwood now, too!

An excellent way to view him!
And I hope you enjoy Torchwood. (Although S4 is not worth your time. Seriously, if I could un-watch it, I would.)
