But that's a compliment. It IS over the top, but in every way. The BBC obviously threw money at it, so it looks utterly gorgeous, but (as sea_thoughts says below) the actors are what made it. Funny and poignant and mad.
I can perfectly understand why it might not have been certain people's cup of tea, and I feel very sorry for them.

She was good, but let's say this production was superior in every way.
I think it all began to gel together when Lysander was Harry Potter Mark II, but daft. <3 And then it just got better.

It was a simple way of showing how evil he as, and how he 'deserved' his fate... And RTD doesn't shy away from the dark & disturbing really.
