I had an experience of my pain being dismissed by my GP in 2014. Because I was sensitive to the ridiculously bright lights in her surgery and kept my shades on, she decided that what I described as a lightning bolt all over my head was "just a migraine". Six weeks, serious physiotherapy, another GP and a consultant later (not to mention a brain scan and an MRI) it was discovered that I had had a bulge in a disc in my neck. But I was told "Google your symptoms" because "you're intelligent" rather than get a diagnosis from someone with a medical degree, because it was "just a migraine". And she was a female doctor, whom you would think would be sympathetic to someone in agony, but she wanted to get her time system working and shoved me out in 15 minutes. It's ridiculous how prevalent and pervasive the idea that "all women are attention seekers" or "all women exaggerrate their pain" when obviously we are trained to MINIMISE it. Any woman who states they are in severe pain should be treated LIKE THEY ARE IN SEVERE PAIN. I still resent that GP, and I wish that the worst word I can think of to describe her wasn't a Saxon synonym for lady parts.

I've experienced doctors not taking my pain seriously. I'm not a person who goes to the doctor unless I'm pretty sure I'm dying. I've had doctors say "oh don't worry, it's probably nothing" And later xrays revealed badly broken bones, dislocated joints, or they've come back with other major issues. That article was super scary. Poor woman. :(

I've actually gotten lucky and because of my high pain threshold, I've generally had mine taken very seriously...

Those last two articles, ugh. When I read about male doctors who deliberately take their female patients' pain tolerance levels for granted, it makes me remember that priests used to think that women deserved childbirth pain because of their nature as temptresses. Nice to see how far we've come, smh.

The doctor who ignored Joe Fassler's wife should have been sued for malpractice.

This. Especially considering how we are supposed to 'be more comfortable with pain' (child birth and all that...) and have a higher pain-threshold. *incoherent anger*
