Link roundup (because I have far too many tabs open...)

Especailly like the Hillary segment (starting at 1:55). Although the Nazi thing is... Well, real life is overtaking the comedy at an alarming rate:

Trump Supporters Raise Right Hands to Pledge Support.

(I keep thinking that surely it can't be real. But The Slate is not the Daily Mail, you know? I don't want to throw these words around lightly, yet I'm worried.)

And re. debates, then the ones in Flint were interesting:

Flint mayor: GOP candidates were as dismissive of concerns as state was

Flint Wins the Democratic Debate (Hillary Clinton relied on anecdote and Bernie Sanders on principle—but the real story was that local residents forced the candidates to grapple with their community’s particular concerns.)

Says it all, doesn't it?

And finally, because it's a thing of beauty, and oh god, America will never have a President with so much class again:

AHAHAHAHA, that video is hilarious. Because of course black men are never allowed to be angry in public.

I nearly died laughing at "Khaleesi is coming to Westeros." And I don't even watch Game of Thrones.

Ah yes, the 2015 correspondant's dinner. Keegan-Michael Key's Luthor was so perfectly done. - from what I've read, Obama wrote most of the script and there was some improvisation done. Barely any rehearsal time. He really should consider doing Comedy Central :)

This is what comes of not learning history.

Luther, the Anger Translator is always hysterical, but then to have him there with the President! I giggled a lot.

Why, oh why, can't we get a third term?

[identity profile] masakochan.livejournal.com 2016-03-07 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't know he was a thing!

Yeah- the 'Anger Translator' was a skit they did in the Key & Peele show.

That anger translator is just amazing :D

I have mixed feelings about comparing anyone who hasn't actually murdered millions of people to the Nazis- outside of humor of course where nothing is sacred. On one hand, that's a very wide fucking gulf between someone being an asshole and being you know, Hitler. On the other, Trump's ideology approaches fascism in multiple respects. That might be a better way to put it.

Worth remembering that Mussolini was the Fascist and Hitler the Nazi; Jews weren;t systematically transported to the camps until Mussolini was ousted.

Trump is a fascist, not a nazi.

Though he may be worse; the NAzis could never have carried out their plans without the help, or lack of opposition from millions who weren't and never were Nazis.

I love his anger-translator *Cackles* hubby just saw that recently and he loved it as well. I just can't fathom going from such a classy, humorous and down-to-earth President to...Trump of all people. Ye gods.

I knew Trump was a Nazi the second he started spouting off about the Hispanic people within our borders. I knew it would only go downhill from there. I hate being right sometimes...

I certainly hope you are right. That Hillary (or Bernie - sorry, I adore Bernie!) take it...but with all that is happening in our political sphere, I'm really, really worried.

I think that is what makes the off-hand, tasteless 'comedy' of comparing him to Hitler so terrifying. Because it went from tasteless and off-hand to scarily accurate. From his rhetoric, the frenzy he induces in his crowds, his call for absolute fealty and skewed views on the world and the people within it...he is too close to the real thing to make me comfortable. He is an absolute fascist and the last thing we need. Fascism is already on the rise here and we could either have complete fascism - or a total turnaround to the opposite view. It could truly go either way here...and Trump is too damned dangerous to be considered your standard tempest in a teapot.

LOL!! Good way to put it! And though I'm sure there is still asshattery about out there, I've noticed the HRC and Bern supporters are being calmer to each other. We have the same goals, just slight differences, that's all. I think there are some things other countries supply to the citizenry as a given that the US could more than afford. I've noticed that it is less being called 'unrealistic' and 'unpragmatic' as 'something that is in consideration', which makes me happy. I know Bernie likely won't take it. But he has made an impression and gotten everyone thinking. And then there is the total comradery between the two of them after debating which makes me happy, lol! I've noticed the changes to her platform...and I'm nothing but pleased. She is a smart woman and a thinker to boot. That she has moved her campaign forward in such a way is not a surprise to me. :D

Gods, yes. And no one is madder than the Republicans. They opened the path to this beast. But this wasn't exactly what they had planned on. Too bad. They made it possible. I'd laugh over it, if it wasn't so damned serious.

[identity profile] a-phoenixdragon.livejournal.com 2016-03-14 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course they do. The irony!! The hate, prejudice and out-right lies they've poisoned their base with has nothing to do with it at all. Trump IS Because Obama. Makes perfect sense. *Headdesk*

Ughhhh...Bobby Jindal. What that man knows could fill a 4X4 small white card and still have room for several works of art. Gah.

"KAHLEESI IS COMIN' TO WESTEROS!"

:-)

And "That's why we're running for a third term..."

"Uh, no we're not."

"We're not?" ... "WHO THE HELL SAID THAT?"

When are we going to start appreciating this guy as the best President America has ever had?
