Yeah… Tbh, that's kind of my problem—I was 14 in 2008, the whole "politically aware" part of my life has been about a Democrat-ruled America (Congress notwithstanding, of course). Although I do recall Sarah Palin (partly because of people like Sarah Palin), I can't quite shake the reflex of "But those guys are insane. There is no way anyone in their right mind would elect someone like that". The thought of such extreme and/or such ludicrous people making it into office has my brain go to a halt. Except for the Iraq war, I know practically nothing of a Republican-ruled America so I kind of automatically/naively assume that past governments have been sharply right, highly problematic with issues like gun control or reproductive rights, but at least, you know, credible to run a country =P
