RTD probably thought it was still in character for Rose to be optimistic about all fathers despite what she witness. Mark Gatiss seemed to left it to interpretation. I know at face value anyone who doesn't have a pleasant relationship with their father would not like it at all. That part of the episode stuck with me because the rest of the plot was eh?. I try to forget about the cheesy grins that Ten and Rose pull.
