Hmph.

I'm sure you've heard of this post by now, about sponsored communities. And probably also [livejournal.com profile] bradfitz's attempt at damage control.

I'm not happy with this at all. You know what it reminds me of? This:

LILAH: What we're offering you is a turnkey, state-of-the-art, multi-tasking operation. What you do with it, well, that's up to you.

Colour me sceptical. I'm sure there'll be lots of shiny things for those that want them, but that was never the point of LJ.

*sigh*

Well I guess we'll just have to shout as loudly as we can, right?

And *I* have to go do RL stuff... bye for now!

ETA: Excellent comment here about how it'll destroy trust. Will we have to make every newbie sing for Lorne to make sure they're not evil corporate puppets? And what if a Knox gets through?

I'm going to put boycott lj ads in my interests! :)

*shrugs* Personally I think this whole brouhaha about it is silly and will probably end up on some wanking community sooner or later. It's not like anyone is shoving sponsered communities into the paid users faces or that sockpuppets will begin running amuck in other communities or journals (well, at least moreso than they usually do at any rate), so I don't see why I should really care.

Just my two cents, since I'm not going to be talking about it in my own journal.

Looks like "boycott lj ads" has a special blocked status in your interests list. It's especially singled out not to link to a list of ljers who are interested in it.

I fully intend to remove most of my interests and user details if they continue with the plan for sponsored comms. I don't mean to leave any information these companies can use to target me with spam. I get enough spam emails for viagra as it is...
