Buzzfeed: 52 Heartwarming Pictures From The First Day Of Equal Marriage In The UK

ETA: From a report (by Camilla Long) about the first gay weddings. This part comes at the very end, focussing on Sandi Toksvik's ceremony:

The vows were conducted by her 19 year old son, who asked: "If anyone knows of any lawful impediment to this marriage, they should declare it now."

A man in the audience screamed: "It should have been me!" "Oh Jeremy," sighed Sandi. "If only you'd asked sooner."

She looked at the huge hall, the confetti, the hundred singing gay men in wedding outfits on stage, the conductor frantically searching for the music to River Deep, Mountain High, and added: "This is just a phase."

~

I've not seen it, but I read the review in The Sunday Times, which was a) spoilery, and b) snarky, but fabulous. (Camilla Long is not a fangirl.) The relevant part:

'Credit to Chris [Evans] who does a good job of believing him [Arnim Zola], before discovering that the Winter Soldier is in fact his best friend. Cue lasers and bromance.'

I am now very, very tempted to change my title to 'Lasers and Bromance'.

~

And then I thought I'd share some texts Miss M sent me recently. We were going to see The LEGO Movie, and we were running late. Except Miss M had been in town with some friends, so was waiting for us. For about half an hour or so...

I can just picture that happening at Sandi Toksvig's wedding.

I hope you fed your poor, food deprived, daughter... before sacrificing her for the good of the rest of the family.

Those pictures of UK weddings made me all teary eyed. I kind of wish I lived in the UK right now, even though I'd probably be cold and have a runny nose. What a wonderful thing to celebrate!

And I knew the ending of Captain America 2 when I saw Captain America 1 and my friend flat out says what happens the minute Cap's bestie "dies" in the first movie. He's not very good with spoilers.

And Miss M remains adorable

Edit: I'll see your adorable marriage equality pictures and raise you some kids dressed as feminist icons.

Oh, the weddings... *cheers quite loudly* Really needed at the moment in my stupid, stupid, homophobic, misogynist, xenophobic, STUPID country.

XD Miss M is a queen of sarcasm.

So happy for all those who can now get *married*. Just saw The Winter Soldier last night and loved it but I know how ridiculous it would look to someone who's not a fan (but the best of the phase 2 movies so far). I'm always happy when people have to acknowledge Chis Evans as a good actor.

No, it's not an easy part. Did you like him in Avengers? I know a lot of people didn't like him that much and some people got the wrong idea about him being a stickler for rules, but it's very clever in that most people are so busy being annoyed with him for being wrong about Tony that they don't notice he's right about EVERYTHING ELSE. It's hard to play someone nowadays who is earnest and dedicated to what they do without any irony (though he actually has a great sense of humour) but Evans does it very well.

Thank you very much for sharing that first link, so many wonderful pictures indeed. I have no idea why someone would want to stand in the way of obvious love and happyness.

When John Barrowman married last year in California he said it was very emotional, as there were people in their Eighties who thought for their entire life they would never be able to.

I grew up in Eastern Germany, where religion was... pretty much nonexistent. Well, it did actually exist, but it wasn't well tolerated and thought to be a thing from the past that needs to be overcome. So, no obstacles for me there.

You have a Scott/John icon!!! ♥

I do! I did not make it though, I stole it from http://happyhybrid.livejournal.com/ I should ask her if she actually made it to give proper credit. Since it is her default icon, it is a high possibility...

I simply love that embrace. Surely you know the documentary "The making of me"? That's from the end, when John came back home after two weeks in America or something like that. He's practially melting into that embrace.

I also have a Scott icon ;) That one is properly credited.

The two of them are my favourite couple in the whole wide world. Just totally adorable together, and still smitten with each other after 20 years. And that shall be wrong? Nobody can tell me that.

Late to the party, but I loved The Winter Soldier. I tend to take critical reviews of action movies with a grain of salt, because my sense is that most reviewers are kind of snobby and look down their noses at the action genre. Which is really a shame, because the Avengers movies have a lot of great character stuff in them; also, they're written with a wonderful sense of humor and a deep sense of humanity. Entertaining as they are, they always leave me thinking thinky thoughts, and that's always a good thing.
