I don't actually care who Harry ends up with, but so far all the direct quotes I've seen say nothing about Hermione should have been with Harry, just that ending up with Ron might have been a mistake. It's just the Harry/Hermione shippers making the leap that if she's not with Ron, she MUST end up with Harry, because apparently it's impossible that she meet anyone else, or stay single. :P

Hahaha, oh god, she's said it! =P That certainly feels a bit odd, lol. I've never believed in that ship much, personally, but if the author herself makes remarks like that…

In the best of all possible worlds Ron/Hermione fans would take it in their stride and think up ways to make the ship work all the same (people grow, so do relationships…), and the unconvinced would nod and move on. In the real world… who said "ship war"? XD

Stranger jumping in, sorry—I couldn't see that and not yell approval. In JKR's world, teenage relationships always seem to hold and divorce is unheard of ;)

This and this!

I'll happily go back to shipping one-sided Bellatrix/Voldemort and Lucius/Narcissa and not care about main characters now ;)

My first reaction was a chortle and a thumbs-up sign, and my second was thinking of A Song of Ice and Fire (my mind makes that connection too often these days) and laughing even harder. XD

Don't do that to me! I'll stare at the gif for five minutes in a row now! (I kind of hide in the corner with my heap of HP friends sometimes, my mind just goes "Yeah, HP is cool and my OTP of eight years is cool, but just give me all the Who things now." In itself that is no problem, but when people hope to see me produce more HP writing… ahem ;P)

...boy, that fandom's going to live in interesting times for a while.

[identity profile] honeynoir.livejournal.com 2014-02-02 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, that's actually really interesting. I thought the Hermione/anyone but Ron shippers were already ignoring the Epilogue completely and so this interview shouldn't matter to them... but I'm probably terribly wrong. *is afraid to look at ONTD*

I'm staying out of this fight...O_o

It amuses me that after she spent seven books leading to the Ron/Hermione Harry/Ginny couplings, she now comes out with this. Maybe she's trying to turn attention away from the fact that her adult books aren't that popular? Or are they? I don't know because I have no interest in them.

hehehe :)

nice one, JKR!

Harry/Luna=4ever!!!!!!

When I read it earlier I found myself more fascinated by the "for very personal reasons, not for reasons of credibility" bit. I wonder what on earth in her personal life made her feel this would be the perfect ending?

The Draco/Hermione shippers will be so pleased - the couple I read both see that original pairing ending in divorce and, now, that is more or less canon!

Well, there's always the entry/report for it at the fandom_wank comm.

Oh... dear. That's everything I was sure it would be. HP fandom is still strong, I see.

Mine goes back to… age ten at least, but probably a lot earlier than that… I don't even know, either. XD Disney movies. Living with characters in your head is a thing…

Same thought about Ginny and Harry/Ginny - and I as I am re-reading HP & HBP at the moment, and I am trying to look at the way the relationships are established with open mind - I see the work that went into Ron/Hermione, but harry/ginny is just there. Luna is really more believable, absolutely.

"Interesting times" in the Chinese curse sense of the words

[identity profile] infinitewhale.livejournal.com 2014-02-03 01:34 am (UTC)(link)

I've never read HP, but I am amused by the word 'revealed' as if the author has authority over that.

I take it this is why I've been seeing Joss prefers Spuffy posts the last day or two...

I still ship Luna/Harry. *shrugs*

I have too many feelings about this for something I don't actually care about.

The predominant one being that, while I don't generally subscribe to the whole 'writer is dead' thing and do think it matters what the writer meant, at the same time YOU FINISHED THE DAMN SERIES ALREADY AND YOU DON'T GET TO TAKE IT BACK.

Secondarily, while our Dynamic Trio were generally the lest interesting thing about the books for me and their teenage romantic foibles even painfully more so, at least I had the consolation that she didn't put Harry together with Hermione. Thank goodness.

This is actually my main gripe. And not just relationships. All these characters' lives seem to be set by things that happened when they were 17.

[identity profile] flowsoffire.livejournal.com 2014-02-03 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Quite right =P Plot-wise, it figures since that's the key moment, but… why that epilogue? It's fond, but I would have preferred an open ending. Oh well ;P

LOL. And she can't! But like someone says above, what does it say about her own issues? Stephenie Meyer was so very obviously dealing with a ton of stuff in Twilight, but why did Ron & Hermione have to end up together for J.K to be happy?
See, to me that felt like the more mature and interesting pairing, and Harry/Hermione would have been . . . well, if not wish fulfillment exactly, then entirely too pat. Of course she ends up with him because he's the hero character. I suppose Ron/Hermione has a validation of the everyman element about it. Ron's like a Xander who I don't want to strangle all the time--though, frankly, I think that deserves a bit of validation.

I say this not having actually read this interview or with any intention to . . .

Heh. I just wish he'd married Luna...
Oooooo, it's been awhile . . . I think I wanted Luna/Neville. But that may have been a function of my brain pairing up the odd characters that I liked in the hopes that they'd end up with more page-time.

And I never saw them as a bad match really - it was Harry/Ginny I never really got. Mostly because I didn't think Ginny was ever fleshed out.
I was never really against Harry/Ginny. If nothing else it seemed entirely innocuous, if out of left field. But I've had people able to explain it to me in a way that made sense. I would have liked to have seen a little more substance in the books.
