Peter Freuchen is a top candidate for the Most Interesting Man in the World. (As I grew up with his books about polar exploration this thrilled me no end!)
And here is one of said books:
Arctic Adventure: My Life in the Frozen North.
Freuchen lived in Thule for fifteen years, adopting ways of its natives. He married an Inuit woman, and together they had two children. Freuchen went on many expeditions, quite a few of which he barely survived, suffering frostbite, snow blindness, and starvation. Near the North Pole there is no such thing as an easy and safe outing.

From the BBC:
Easter egg hunt: Seven secrets of the world wide web. Includes a link to where the TARDIS resides within the Google Maps (just outside Earls Court station on the London Underground) - and you can explore it!
~
Also I've so far been very lax and not mentioned the return to LJ of
kerkevik_2014 (new LJ, natch). Head to his LJ for delights such as this beautiful Sally Sparrow drabble: Lover's Dance. (Although mostly it's Buffy 'verse - go have a look!)

People Explore Abandoned Buildings All The Time. But What This Guy Found… (presuming it's true of course)

Here Are 20 Unbelievable Places You Would Swear Aren’t Real… But They Are.

The Ancient Ghost City of Ani. (The the once-great Armenian metropolis of Ani was known as "the city of a thousand and one churches.")

ETA (via kerkevik): Time And Relative Diapers In Space. Just go. You will find the cutest Dalek costume ever!

Things fall apart very quickly as soon as we stop maintaining them. There's an old abandoned public bath in the middle of Stockholm, literally just metres away from some of the busiest streets in town, that's been closed for about five years. Here's what it looks like now - like something straight out of some post-apocalyptic movie.

And nature seems incredibly resilient. I remember reading an article about how the nature around Chernobyl is thriving, and the wildlife is flourishing. Properly flourishing, not full of glow-in-the-dark rabbits and deformed bears.
And thank you for the link, will check it out! :)

I only read the first link, because I'm having trouble focusing, apparently. But wow- Arctic explorer! I always had a soft spot for people who actually DO things. I love thinking and feeling too, but ohohohohoho- doing things with hands and body is... exhilarating! (I actually can't find the appropriate word :()
ps: If you don't mind, I would like to add you to my flist<3 (You don't have to add back, but I already feel creepy lurking on your lj so much >.>;;)

They're really not like anything else I've ever read.
And looking forward to getting to know you. The Eleventy gif on your info page is one of the most gorgeous things I have ever seen - I'm sure we'll get along fine! <3

Actually I haven't read anything by Peter Freuchen yet, I was generally thinking about adventure books - like Papillion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Papillon_%28book%29) - or, you know, that was the first book that came to mind :)
Oh, that gif set won my heart too! It's so... the Doctor! Looking at the world like it's brand new every day!! With wonder and excitement! (I also think those are from The Doctor's Wife.m,.sdnfmbga!!!)

Heh. I can see why, although Freuchen's arctic adventures are somewhat different in nature. And very funny, a lot of the time! (I've not read him in years, must remedy this...)
