Quite by accident, we were at that event, though in the afternoon before this happened. We were spending a few days in Rome and had just done the Vatican Museum when we noticed the crowd in St Peter's Square and hung around a while. I am very much a non-believer and was rather astonished to find myself moved to tears. It is just such an amazing public space. A real "twitch upon the thread" experience!

OMG, that is massively sweet and awesome!! *Grins* I'm not surprised at all, either. He seems a rather broadminded and loving man. To have a child be so unafraid and so affectionate must have been refreshing to say the least!!

He used to spend a lot of time in the slums, and seems to be focussed squarely on those that need help, rather than preaching against things.

My mom is visiting, and we saw that! I'm a lapsed catholic-- I've been going to a non-denominational church for ages. But I love the new guy! I even follow him on facebook!
