British adverts...
Explanation for non-Brits.
This is one of those little in-between ads from the TV channel Dave (Halfords sponsor motoring programmes as far as I can tell - more ads here if anyone is very curious & very bored). Happened to see it this morning when Darcy was watching Top Gear and it amused me:
Secondly, there's this advert, which has which has received more than 250 complaints! Mostly it just cracks me up:
(This would be the British version of the Cheerios ad, btw. *g*)
Also, this Tumblr has made my day:

ETA: Shark found on New York subway! And here we've been, ridiculing Sharknado...

(I always like the 'joke' that every British person is given a jar of Marmite when they're born, and when they die there's still enough left for the wake. *g*)

(Mind you, I can remember when RTD was in charge, and LIKING the show made you a freak, because EVERYTHING RTD wrote was sexist & BAAAAAAAD. I think I was one of about 3 people who admitted to enjoyed EoT.)

The last kid's face at the end just made it for me.
OMG...I would have thought it would be one of the alligators in the sewer, but a shark? Okay...*shrugs* That's New York for you.
Dude. That Tumblr...brilliant!! Makes me smile!

I especially laugh when people say now that RTD wrote women "so much better" than Moff, when at the time, everyone was complaining about how Rose mooned over Ten, how Jackie was paired off with the alt-world duplicate of her late husband, and how everyone in general had Mother Issues. And those are three things I can think of, right off the top of my head. IIRC, there were about a million more.
Arguably, Moff has a much better record writing female characters. No matter how much anguish they endure, they seem to come through it with their guts and dignity intact. I'm not sure you could say that about all RTD's female characters. Maybe only Martha?
And it's funny how nobody ever complains about RTD indulging himself with the Doctor-Master barely concealed slash. (Not that **I'm** complaining, mind you!) He gets a completely free pass for putting the Doctor and the Master in a bondage chair... Moff puts River in a pair of spike heels or Amy in a short skirt, and people start writing Ph.D.-level dissertations about his misogyny and sexism. Uh, double standard, anyone?

But mostly I don't really get why any of the three would cause people to complain. Men kiss, inter racial marriages happen and they often produce adorable kids, and Marmite sits on cupboards and yet the world is still spinning. LOL

IKR? Where did all those people go? It was neverending!
And those are three things I can think of, right off the top of my head. IIRC, there were about a million more.
Oh god, don't get me started. Rose's ending, Martha's whole story (except for walking away), how Ten treated her, how she was always second best (all this of course racist, on account of Rose being white & Martha black & all that, plus her family as servants to the (white) Master), Harriet Jones (Don't you think she looks tired?), everything to do with Mickey (racism again, plus Ten being a bastard. And seriously, he was - Nine got better, but Ten went back to being an ass), the TERRIBLE writing of LotT, JE and EoT, the Doctor being completely OOC in 'Waters of Mars' (or WoM being the only decent episode, everything else was crap), Adelaide KILLING HERSELF, oh and DONNA, dear god Donna, her fate was worse than death and wow, did people HATE that with a burning, Donna's mum (all the mums, basically), and that's without even mentioning the clusterfuck that was the Torchapocalypse.
*deep breath*
And again - where did all those people go? You couldn't MOVE in fandom without coming across RTD-hatred.
ETA: More! Urusula's fate in Love and Monsters (which I detest btw, and don't think should ever have made it on screen, it's awful in every possible way), making the Master crazy (Oldskool fans were NOT happy), any black character being declared further proof of RTD's racism (I can give you a list!), Sarah Jane's story (just sitting around waiting for him), Rose & Donna saying 'Forever', the Doctor's 'No second chances', older women being ridiculed (overlaps with the mother issues), the Doctor's actions in Family of Blood/Human Nature, Tinkerbell!Doctor, The Lonely God, the Doctor's hypocrisy, the Doctor's endless selfpity & man!pain... and I need to go have some breakfast.
Seriously though. It never stopped. I've defended about 90% of this stuff.
ETA2: Jack! How could I forget Jack! Actually, this vid addresses a LOT of the issues (with how the Doctor behaved towards those he loved, and those he didn;t love quite as much...), and does so very cleverly.

:::bangs head against wall:::
I can't download the video at work, but I completely believe you. And it's weird--I feel like under Moff, the Doctor has so much more compassion. Compare the Doctor's treatment of Mickey to his treatment of Rory. I got the feeling that while the Doctor came to grudgingly respect Mickey, in his mind, Mickey was always going to be the guy who freaked out at the very thought of aliens (and who was a rival for Rose's affections, let's face it). Maybe part of why the Doctor could deal better with Rory is that the Doctor wasn't interested in Amy, so he didn't view Rory as a rival; plus Rory, after some initial freaking out, coped better with the idea of aliens. But overall, I think Eleven was just kinder--characters had to really, really press his buttons (like Madame Kovarian or Solomon) before he would go all Oncoming Storm on them. And I think Moff has had a lot to do with that change in characterization. But does he get any credit for that? Of course not!

It is SO STRANGE! Where did all the haters go? Were they only there to complain, and have now stopped watching? They seemed to be the whole audience... Anyway, RTD bashers had a whole cornucopia to hate. Moffat haters seem far more limited. *g* Plus, the seem to have NO MEMORY! The whole of fandom was up in arms over Rusty's '9 hysterical women on the internet' comment. I thought the hatred would be never ending...

Have a look when you get home, it's worth it. So, so good.

Totally. Ten was... well, he was broken. The pain was such that he couldn't see beyond himself (everything is allll about him, literally), whereas Eleven is much more focussed OUT. I even have three things to rec!
Vids:
Watch Handlebars, immediately followed by Let It Fall. Might give you vertigo due to the vast change in perspective.
Meta:
The Tragedy and Death of the Lonely God and the Rise of the Trickster. Or: How Moffat re-booted DW (by me. What it says.)
Fic:
Trust Me (I'm a Lying Liar Who Lies). (also by me) Summary: In which River is enigmatic, Martha is frustrated, Mickey is intrigued and the Doctor... is a Pond. (Basically, deals with all of Martha & Mickey's issues as well as how the Doctor has changed.)
Aaaand now I shall go away and leave you alone and not throw stuff at you. *g* Mostly it's all summed up in my icon.

And oh, that Tumblr. ♥

Which is why I wrote them! *g* It's a whole different world over here...
Then it occurred to me, do you guys even get Animal Planet and its preponderance of reality animal rescue shows over there?
Not so much Animal Planet as plenty of Animal Rescue/Animal Hospital shows. People take their pets v. seriously.
and yet the world is still spinning. LOL
EXACTLY! :D
